Forza 4

I posted this on the previous page, but here it is again...

FM4 at metacritic - 91%.
GT5 at metacritic - 84%.

That is a substantial difference for such flagship games.

and need for speed hot pursuit - 89% -> LMAO http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit

the ratings are not the end all and be all. Forza was based on 51 while GT5 on 82 critics. tbh, there's a lot of PR politics involved in press reviews (ie buying ad space, giving out exclusives, making materials available, "gifts", diners and ofc those "trips" to see the game ;)). also a lot of people were expecting the moon w/ gt5 whereas expectations for FM4 are not nearly as high.

anyway both are best racing games on their respective platforms, both having strong and weak points. the perfect game would take the best of both.

let's give the console wars a rest. it's stale.

I don't believe we're not doing the console wars. Some rational comparison and opinion of a newly released title against it's biggest competition perhaps. That is all for the moment.

yes it is, maybe not your comments, but the ones comparing review scores are. are you comparing weather effects in each game? livery customization? no just rehashing feature list on the back of the boxes. we all know this

the games are not really competitors since both are exclusive to their respective console. people that have PS3 will have GT5, people that have xbox360 will have Forza and people that have both consoles will have both games (the true winners in this discussion). think of the poor unlucky people with only a wii :D

anyway i have liked both games in all their versions, but both get boring after a while, but any racing fan should be happy that we have 2 great racing games on console. however, the one i am really excited about is rfactor 2 http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/

He's not saying they're worthless, he's saying that the amount of variation there could be in different scoring policies makes the difference between 91 and 84 less significant than it might at first appear.

He appears to be saying that the review scores in question have been determined by the size of marketing war chests rather than game quality.

Never heard of that before, but after seeing their trailer video, I think Forza4's environments need a bit of work. Blimey.

That being said, I've been noticing that the environments are better than in FM3. I raced Sedona yesterday and it looks much better than in FM3.

Hang on! You wander in here and deride a number of regular Forza related posters for kicking off the "console wars" then chuck that in?

At least use a common yardstick. How well will rFactor 2 play on a six year old P4 with a GeForce 6 series?

On these forums the "Vs" is taken too personally and always gets nasty or tangled with personal jibes. I think it's great to see both franchises push each other and that's what counts as we the end gamers get the benefits.

If anything FM4 is a huge upgrade over 3 in many ways and GT5 while still "technically" being the one that defines the genre with 1080p also offering 3D with weather and day-night transitions. However at the expense of being a bit like a wide selection buffet of half filled dishes from a game design perspective. So you have a game that Gives you a taste but you kinda want more of it so feels a little like a lot of half done modes and either too ambitious or less well planned/managed.

FM4 and it's new partnerships Inc TopGear with what seems a better structured and more passionate development could be the overall more entertaining game. It also tries to appeal more to a wider selection of gamers and ages. Kinect is well implemented graphics and audio are amongst the best on the system all with upto 2x more on track cars is a real technical achievement.

I really want this game but I'm worried I'm gonna get bored of it fast and never play it again! I did this with Forza 3 even though Forza 3 is a great game!

As someone has has done 50+ game reviews for multiple sites, I can assure you that this is not the case. If any company tried to "buy" a more favourable review from us, we would tell them to get stuffed. Virtually every game journo I know would never accept those conditions.

I've seen the exact opposite thing said, but I can't remember who by. Possibly Stuart Campbell. Which... well, yes.

so,whats your favorite track in FM4?
for me - Hockenheim...race during evening with sunset is something...

True, I'm loving the slightly retouched Maple Valley, that was always a favourite of mine!

rfactor 2 is a pc game, you would expect it to look better running on hundreds of pounds worth of hardware...
Didn't realise this! "What platform it's on" was my next thing to figure out, but I had to rush out...

"Influenced by", rather than "determined by", I think. Just throwing it in as a factor, was how I read it. Either way, Forza 4's amazing, I don't own a PS3, so it's all good :)

Pre-ordered it, arrived yesterday from the rainforest.

I've only tried it briefly.

First impressions :
* no LB/RB buttons which is slightly annoying. You'll need a pad to access the tuning screens and the like.
* took me a while to figure how to get the controls setup for manual with clutch, the defaults are more arcade biased. Rewind and handbrake are of little interest to me!
* steering is much more accurate than the pad
* not a huge amount of vibration feedback
