I tried again without automatic gears and apparently that makes all the difference as it keeps the profile on expert instead of custom.

Back end of the zonda was swinging like a pendulum and I unfortunately span a couple times on my second go. Same lap was 7 seconds slower

Its obviously not a sim but thats way closer to what I was expecting.
GT4 had a similar thing, you had to have the settings set exactly right or ESC would smooth the spikes out, I'd rather have the challenge left in

Does anyone know how to get rid of the green arrow? It really annoys me, i never follow it anyway. I'm normally on the grass on smashing into a wall.
 
Here's a tip from someone who's nearly hurled a controller through the TV... For the first few times trying an autocross event, keep the full line on so you know where you're going! It's rather annoying suddenly finding yourself on the wrong side of the track when you're not allowed to back up!

The difficulty thing would just be that you were playing expert but with auto gears. Moving from expert to custom in your case would only affect the gears, it wouldn't affect anything else. It's not like moving from expert to custom by virtue of setting it to auto gears would affect, say, traction control. My difficulty is always custom, because I don't use ABS and I use manual no-clutch gears and I chop and change on traction control depending on the car.

Also, switching to auto gears won't inherently improve traction, though what will affect things is that the auto gears are incredibly conservative and cautious. The most obvious example of this is that drag racing with auto gears is literally pointless. The auto gears will switch up really early, which makes acceleration hard work but means you're less likely to spin out. If you're cornering at 50 in a powerful rwd car with auto gears it might put you in second and you can hit the gas that bit harder and with less care than if you were doing it with manual gears and you're taking that bend in first because you want to be able to really hit it when things straighten out.
 
gonna have to pick this up i think.....I have no net at home for a week and a half so need some good sp games to keep me busy.

thing is I want to complete Ninja gaiden 2 first...;p
 
For anyone struggling as a new player, you can certainly leave the racing line on, but you should probably try and remove as many aids as possible as early as possible.

You don't want to get too used to assisted driving, because once you get used to the game, you'll almost certainly enjoy it more without all the extra assists as you get more control over the car.

Generally the game isn't that hard with all the assists off, even with a pad. The problem is since people have no fear, they just rush into corners at insane speeds and have accidents. If you consciously try and race smarter and focus on keeping it on the track first and being fast second it will help you a lot.

Also remember the triggers are not digital, there is plenty of room to only apply 70% throttle or 30% braking where you need it.

Pretty sure that car is a unicorn in FM4 so I don't think it can be gifted. The only way you can get hold of it is by winning it in the auction house, and that's the kind of car that goes for tens of millions.
