Loving this game. Keep having rival races with friends from work on the top gear test track


So addictive trying to shave the time down.

Well, I fixed up my Citroen C1 and beat your Renault 5 on the Tsukuba one! I'm a couple of places off a couple of your autocross ones, but the Tsukuba one took me a while, so I didn't get a chance to make good on my autocross threat just yet.

What kind of times are you guys running at on the top gear track in the Kia? I'm second in my list of friends but can't help thinking my time is pathetic! Think it's 1:42ish and the guy in first is 2 seconds faster - try as I might I just can't get any closer to him, he seems not to use ABS I might give turning it off a bash as it's the only assist I use
 
ABS does make a small difference, but it's different for each car, so you have to learn the point at which the wheels lock up for each car (and even setup of the same car!). ABS won't make 2 seconds difference though, you'd be surprised how simple line correction and avoiding losing traction when braking/cornering can make a massive difference to times!

I got in to the 1:39s last time I tried - but it was a dirty lap :( Best I've managed clean is a high 1:40 and i'm in the top 1000 on the leaderboard for this rivals.

The "clean" lap system is driving me nuts sometimes! I use kerbs - this game doesn't like you doing that :(

Especially annoying on this months 4x4 rivals challenge when the rows of cars bunch up in just the wrong places, forcing you to either collide with one of them or go off the track to avoid and if it happens in the last section... you have do do another 3:30 lap just to start fresh... argh!
 
I think corner traction is my main problem as I'm constantly squealing away round the slower bends - i'll work on that and see where I can get to, on more powerful cars I find going round in a gear higher than feels natural at first helps but with the little kia it just leaves it floundering on the straight.

To be fair I'm a little rusty, haven't played forza 3 for nearly a year and only picked up 4 in the last couple of weeks - doesn't help that my friends are all as terrible as or worse than me so can't find any ghosts that are a step between me and my new nemesis to follow round!

I don't find the kerbs too bad though it always seems to have been the case in forza games where you can use all of the kerb and then a bit extra on some corners and no more than half of it in others without getting a dirty lap for the pleasure!

My current fastest time is 1:43.290, I tried watching G0rd's lap, but he leaves me for dead. I am fine up until the last two corners, then it goes to ****.
 
a result the king of the track racer only put in a 1:13 time, i managed a 1:09.4 without much effort. i was planning on getting into the 1:08's if needed.

360CS and painted pagani should turn up sometime next month.

I've been trying to get that unicorn as i used the car a lot in FM2 & FM3, i've got 8 (7 unique) unicorns i didnt really want so far, lol

hopefully next month is the LP640 or Camaro SS as those are the only others that interest me...

I have tracks like that - one or two corners that I just cannot do.

I was doing the Mazda Road Atlanta Rivals event the other day, and while I'm pretty good on the back half of it, I'm absolutely awful on the initial right hander into the uphill section. On a bad lap (and that's most of them) I'm 1.5s off my best laps.

It can be really interesting to watch the replays of higher placed laps and see how much the line you're taking differs from someone who's making a really good job of things.

Try braking earlier, entering the corner slower and using more power a bit earlier on the exit... Start like that and work towards your old squeaky breaking point. As you do that, you will relatively quickly find the right speed.

The third corner ( hairpin) is where I see a lot of ghosts entering way too fast, so they lose out a lot on that straight thanks to reduced exit speed. Mine isn't perfect, but still faster than all the ghosts I've been up against on that corner!

I still need to work on the last two corners... That's where darryns ghost catches me up significantly.
 
Anyone else got a "Rival Recommendation" to a Hyundai Veloster Suzuka West Rival, but when you click "Goto to" it dies?

Got this yesterday and want to have a bash but cannot find it?
 
I've got a recommendation. "r1chUK" has set a time of ten minutes in a Radical SR8, but unless he's doing like 6 laps I can't imagine that's correct.
 
There's a thread on the gamefaqs board saying you have to have downloaded the Hyundai DLC, registered by the 8th and must be a US resident.

I changed to a different car for Tsukuba and carded a much, much lower time now :D

I had that too but when i select it, it just hangs on some different challenge.
