Forza Horizon 3 just shown at E3

I only just reinstalled this last weekend (damn windows store and its stupid download system) and have been having a blast then they announce this expansion which looks pretty cool.

Will definitely pick it up.

Also:

Alongside the Hot Wheels expansion, an update for Forza Horizon 3 will be released. The update features “significant improvements” for Windows 10 players such as: improved new support for numerous popular driving wheels, improved CPU performance, additional graphical options, and more.

The full list of improvements in the update will be made available upon release of the Hot Wheel Expansion.

As someone who loved and played the **** off Horizon 1 on the 360 and who has just upgraded to a W10 and a 1700/1080 - would you all recommend it?

I'm toying with it, as apart from Rocket League i've not really got many racing games in my library, let alone anything like Horizon. Which edition provides the best value? I've got no problem getting the expansions as I will definitely play it a lot.

If you're looking for an open-world arcade-ish racer with lots of cars and content, then absolutely. The optimisation isn't brilliant but your rig should power through all the problems. I'm on a 1070 and it drops into 40s only on the main street in the city and occasionally during heavier races.

The map could've been a bit better but it is what it is. It certainly looks pretty.

As for the editions, it depends on whether you want VIP and all the car packs from the last six months. I went for the Ultimate a couple of days after release because I found a nice deal and sold two spare Steam keys I had. I also grabbed the expansion pass at a discount a couple of months later. I still think the prices are ridiculous as the Ultimate doesn't get you everything.

Personally, I'd get the base game (or the Deluxe if you want VIP and a handful of exclusive cars) and buy the cars you want separately, then grab the expansion pass when it's discounted (it has solid content, Blizzard Mountain was very nice and I don't think Hot Wheels will disappoint).

Only get the Ultimate if you're sure you want all the cars and VIP status as it will be cheaper than buying everything separately.

Theres a demo on windows store, grab it & see if you like it.

On the hot wheels expansion - seems like a direct copy of gtav's stunt racing which was included free on gtav.

Just looking at some comparisons, perhaps I'm expecting too much?

FH3 on the rig in my sig, on ultra settings at 1440P - on the gsync dell I'm getting about 90~100FPS - In the settings I have a locked res at 144 but the hardware (Or the settings I'm using) can't achieve it. At the moment, the TX and the 7700K are at stock.

Does that seem reasonable or should I be expecting more?

That's about what you can expect and you'll likely find some fps drops from those levels when around the city areas (Surfer's Paradise). If check Afterburner while playing, you'll likely see the game is pretty CPU-bound most of the time (and that remains true on an 8-core also). However, tomorrow's patch claims to be "improving CPU utilisation" so we'll see if that lets our graphics cards stretch their legs a bit.

Fantastic game, though.

Sounds like a nice update, is it live yet?

Improved CPU Performance
We have observed that a large portion of players are CPU limited when trying to run Forza Horizon 3 at high frame rates, including locked 60 FPS and unlocked. By analyzing telemetry, we have developed targeted optimizations for this group of affected players by increasing the number of concurrent threads used by the render architecture. We have taken further advantage of DX12 capabilities to allow the visuals to be processed out of order during the frame, in order to reduce synchronization stalls and decrease CPU execution duration. These changes result in a significant CPU performance gain on High or Ultra settings when running on PCs of Recommended spec or better.

Updated Thread Model
We have updated our threading affinity model to make better use of all available cores. Along with this change, we have added a new graphics option to disable the new model, should you prefer. This option can be found in the Video Settings menu under “Threaded Optimization”.

More Graphical Options
We have also added some additional graphical options to improve framerate for those playing on lower specification PCs. These include:

· Dynamic Geometry Quality now has a Very Low option
· World Car Level of Detail now has a Very Low option

These are combined with some existing options to create a new “Very Low” preset that can be used with dynamic optimization.

Additionally, all options have had their descriptions updated to include information on how each setting affects the CPU performance, GPU performance, and available VRAM, so that players can better understand the performance impact that tweaking each setting will have.
