Found an old knife in the loft

Nice find :)
Reminds me of something I found years ago when I was out fishing. Obviously a bayonet of sorts and pretty worthless by the state it's in but does anyone know what type or when it's from

I did some digging for you Johnny. I think this is a Turkish-shortened German ersatz bayonet. Classified as a Carter, number 34. Interesting piece.

The unusual, stepped muzzle ring allows it to be fitted to the Mauser Gewehr 98 and the M1888 Commission Rifle.

Here's a link to a prime condition example: http://worldbayonets.com/Bayonet_Identification_Guide/Germany Ersatz/B1204_2/B1204-1.html

Hope that helps.

Thanks & me too. The thrill of the hunt! If anyone else has anything to post...

;)

My old Dear has a stripped down British Army issue machine gun buried in her back garden apparently, we have looked for it before but it's deep allegedly :D

Is there nowhere in your house where you can put a dagger out of sight & mind of your kids? I'd just put it in a box in the loft wrapped in something. And if they knew about it I'd tell them I sold it.

Nice find though. :)

Wow, that is awesome mate cheers! :)

My pleasure.

Light machine gun or submachine gun? If it's an LMG (Bren) it could be worth up to about £800 in good nick, deactivated. An SMG (Sten) would be hundreds of pounds, too. (I'm assuming it's from the 1940s.) Go find a spade!

Can it be restored dya think?

You could grind the rust down to the metal in some places, but never properly restore it, sadly. :(
