Dont keep it, that's just a nasty thing to do, and you should feel ashamed for suggesting it! I'm glad the op is trying to find the owner or handing it in as that's the decent thing to do.

I meant the Police keeping it, I was responding to "I'm sure they just dump the thing" - hence the quote.

Ok basically, software can be used to get round the pass lock, but should only be used in legal scenarios. It was created in Czechoslovakia and can bypass the iPhones passcode. From what I know it isn't widely available, nor do I know anything about pricing. Without this the police cannot do anything either. Just take the SIM out read it in another phone and access 'Home' or 'Mum' to call.

out of interest, did you get the phone back to the owner?
ive managed to get 2 lost phones back to the rightful owner, and annihilated another because i tried calling people and the only guy i could speak to just kept threatening to '**** me up' for having his 'girls' phone :p
