How is Busquets higher than Yaya? How is Busquets on the list, im tired of 'experts' saying how he is so underrated and does such a thankless job for Barca hes not great defensively and nothing special in attack he's just there.

Average player in a great team who simply doesn't cause an own goal gets rated by half the people both on here and most of the "general football fans" I've met.

Fletcher doesn't cause 38 own goals a year and he gets rated as almost indispensible when Utd are actually winning, same player, playing IDENTICALLY, almost completely useless but the rest of the team not playing well.

Busquets while not giving away games while Barca win will be rated as brilliant by the masses.

Quite funnily Abidal is rather badly rated on here despite being an excellent defender. Pique makes quite a few mistakes for Barca yet ends up top 10.

Its all stupid and being at a better team will make people rate them higher than if they were at a worse team. In fairness a lot of players simply will play better with better players around them. But in Busquet's/Fletcher type cases its more a case of not noticing how "meh" they are while the team is playing well.

:o If Busquets was useless do you think he would be first choice in the best club and national sides in the world? Barca could have their pick of basically any midfielder in the world yet you seem to think they stick with Busquets out of pity or something. :p The bloke is brilliant at his job, never gives the ball away, positionally very astute, has an eye for a pass and a good tackler when needs be.
 
I don't like Biscuits, but to get a game at Barca and Spain in his position, you have to be a very, very talented player. Anyone who questions that is letting their dislike of him get in the way of their judgement.

According to their website it is based on the top 100 players right now, so presumably their form goes somewhat in to making the list, especially if you read the rest of their "How we picked" explanation. If this is the case, then why are we seeing Torres, Essien and Gerrard on this list?

I wouldn't say Silva or RVP are miles away at all.

The fact that Barca players have played together for so long and that everybody absolutely bums them means they're (imo) regarded much higher than they really are. Pique, for example, average devensively but a good footballer playing at CB because he's rarel tested, somehow ranked 8th?
 
Yeah one thing I'd like to do would be a lift-and-shift of Barca's goalkeeper and defence, swap them with a midtable side, and see how they get one. Not saying they are terrible by any stretch of the imagination but there are probably other players who would get a massive ratings boost just by slotting in at Barca.

He works well in his position that he plays for Barca/Spain but its a very specific sort of position, it requires a fair amount of patience and not giving the ball away completely stupidly, like maybe Song will do on occasion but
put him in any other team and will he be world class like this list suggests? No I don't think he will, he's basically Barca's answer to Michael Carrick (bit harsh)

Maybe I just don't like the guy but I don't think hes such a top footballer.
And to answer the first point Valdes is first choice goalkeeper for Barca.

Please dear god, you quoted me, I said average, useless is not average, useless isn't close to average, one of the best in his world, is also not average.

Simply put Barca keep the ball so well he's simply not required to be the worlds best player. All he needs to do is not make too many critical error's, ALL players make big errors, its the frequency and severity that determines if a player is crap or good or whatever. When you have Puyol, a (normally) decent keeper behind you and great players around you, there is both a far better than average safety net behind him and a team ahead of him better than any other in the world, meaning there are simply less attacks and less opposition possession for him to deal with.

Having Xavi/Messi around you, holding possession means maybe he's only dealing with lets say 10 dangerous situations a game, how many more would he be in playing for wigan, 100 more. What about when he makes a mistake, 9/10 times Puyol/Valdes/whoever will save his bacon, again at Wigan a far higher portion of times a critical mistake will end up in a goal rather than nothing.


Busquet's simply doesn't have the same job to do for Barca, that he would at Wigan. As for not giving the ball away, look how most teams play Barca, 10 men behind the ball deep in their own half, with Busquet's being the keeper/protector of an almost empty half of the pitch........... Also goes for his passing, more often than not he has the 2-3 best players in the world to his left/right and ahead of him, their movement is unbelievable they make passing easy by always being in an easy place to pass to, and with MOST opposition backing off Busquet's is rarely under massive pressure....... when he is I've rarely seen him look like the best player in the world.

Same goes for Spain, they are far stronger than anyone but Germany and they were missing their best player on the day.

I didn't say he was a bad player, he's just, average, he's never had to, nor will ever have to prove himself as a great player at Barca.

Barca don't stick with Busquet's out of pity, they've simply never needed anyone else, if you win everything, why go out of your way to replace everyone.

This is exactly where the Utd comparison comes from. When Utd were winning everything few if any Utd fans saw the need to replace Fletcher, or Anderson, or Giggs, or Carrick. Now when the team is under more pressure and they aren't winning everything........ people look to the weakest part of the team....... that didn't need strengthening before suddenly does need strengthening.

Pretty good point thinking about it... don't remember anyone mentioning Carrick's lack of ability when Ronaldo / Rooney / Tevez were running rampant.

and Gilly, it's because he's, like, super tall and, like, wears, y'know, that blue and red kit.

Yes folks, you begin at Rooney, 6th best player in the world. 6th. Sixth.
