FPS affectionados - what kit do you use?

So how come the Pro's do the opposite - there must be a gain to be had for low settings and higher frames per seconds.

By the way I meant First Person Shooter aficionado's.

It's a myth that harps back to the old days.

Turn it all low and get 500FPS FTW.

a lot of equiptment doesnt make you any better you are good or you are not good..........you dont need to have fancy monitor, mice keyboards...............most of the best people i know at fps game on cheap mice tesco keyboards basic set ups..............awareness,reactions game sense cant be brought.it all depends what level you on about playing.

Well said.

That is what Frankie1080, Ravic and Music are doing? They post their settings on their youtube channels.

If it was a myth why would there be a push towards 144hz monitors and beyond with sync?

the real funny thing is most pro people dont play all day. they play small amounts.as said its more about game awareness and reactions.

playing too much is often a bad idea as you learn bad habbits and your " best period " you often wont do as you been playing all day :D

most people play best in first few games.

Certain equipment helps translate my actual abilities into what happens ingame better than others (though that is kind of obvious) - I play far better (closer to what I intend) with a mechanical keyboard with MX blacks versus any other keyboard, etc. and I don't play half as well at 60Hz compared to 120+Hz in COD4/MW2 it literally reproducibly made the difference between 1:1 and better than 2:1 KDR.

A good number of pro players play a lot - I used to be heavily into the competitive CS and quake 3 scenes - helping many q3 duellers practise (I'm not that great 1v1 myself) and playing CTF at top level - many of the pro players would be on XS4ALL, etc. servers for 5+ hours a night atleast 5-6 nights of the week.

I'm an FPS fan, but I dont go crazy with the hardware stuff to try and gain an advantage.

I'm happy with 1080p/60fps on my IPS monitor. I also turn up the pretty graphics stuff even though I know it hurts me against those who turn detail levels down greatly for better visibility. I much prefer to be more immersed in the experience than slightly improve my kill count or whatever.

My only real concession to FPS's is I like to have my display somewhat close. The larger the image, the better. I like this no matter what I play(or view), but I find it especially useful for FPS's as I can find it difficult to spot distant threats/targets when the screen is farther away.

I did buy a good optical mouse(Steelseries Rival), but haven't really found it has given me any advantage. It does feel nicer to use, though.

Gsync for everything. Full stop.

A higher refresh rate is good for shooters as well.

MKB wise, I use a Ducky shine Mech keyboard and a mouse with a "sniper" button is always a bonus

Some of this will come from the old Q3 engine games where fps over I think 125 (or 250?) allowed you to jump further in game.

Capping at certain framerates (125fps being one of the best) allowed you to exploit a rounding precision error and gain slightly faster strafe movement and higher jump. Once you spend awhile playing Quake 3 at a solid 125fps though anything lesser feels incredibly bad.
