FPS on COD4 3870X2

It kicks in when the gpu power isnt needed. For example, as everyone probably know, gears of war has a serious stuttering problem. However, if using an ati card with powerplay, when the game stutters, gpu load goes down and powerplay kicks in. This makes matters worse.

Similarly in crysis, when the game stutters a bit powerplay kicks in making matters a lot worse.

However, as mentioned, using a modified bios or simply using a rivatuner profile with fixed clocks resolves the problem.

In response to this I can say flashing your X2 so that low power 3d clocks are same as full 3d clocks works a treat with Crysis, whereas before i'd be getting random slowdowns and the fps would be jumping up and down all over, now I get pretty much constant performance.

Well worth doing if you can't be bothered to wait for ATi to fix the problem.

Hey HeX

I know its off topic but what settings are you using to OC your cpu and MB to 3.4Ghz (425) I assume its 425x8 but what voltage/ bios settings ? What temp is your CPU hitting @ load ?

Cheers
M

i too have a 3870x2 and have been experiencing low fps in COD 4 all i did was set my clocks in rivatuner to 860 core and 950 mem and it runs like a dream 100fps + all the time when it used to be 70 to 30...if you dont want to over clock just set the default clocks in rivatuner 825/901 and it prevents the card going into low power mode...

TOL - that works well to a point ..

just tried Rivatuner, and although I selected Core 1 - it clocked Core 2 - fine - set at 860/950 - FSX frame rates did seem better ...

but that leaves one core always out of low power mode - so even in desktop its sitting at 80C, 20+ amps according to GPU-Z

fixed by a reboot of course

how do you set the other core ?

how is the internal crossfire affected if one core and or one memory is set at a different overclock ???

cheers, Mark.
