FPS players: How many of you use the arrow keys to move ??

Have used WASD ever since I started playing Quake II online and a clan member sent me some config tips. So WASD for over 10 years........

Finished Quake when it came out without realising you could add +mlook into the config, it was blooming hard using the arrow keys to look up and down.

EDIT: have notice huge number of folk use 'space' to jump, I still use the right mouse button.

Still use arrow keys for forward/back strafe left/right, the slight offset of the S on WASD doesn't quite work for me.

Mouse 1 = fire
Mouse 2 = jump

Still using the mouse wheel to change weapons in many games as its faster than trying to over-ride the instinct to use it, tho some games I have weapons bound to the home, end, del, etc. block.

I used to but find that wasd seems more comfortable and allows easier access to other buttons like q and e for leaning, f for action button etc.

Thats just how I am set up, although I am right handed but have the mouse in the left hand. Might seem a bit weird but thats how I started playing in the days of Duke Nukem 3d and got so used to it that I can't change.

cant remember my transition from arrows to wasd, i know hate using arrows as i like access to the other buttons.

also it just feels plane wrong now :P

First pc game I played was il-2, as I'm right handed the joystick went in my right while I used the mouse in my left. Played this game so much back then that the mouse stayed in my left hand for everything including FPS games so using the arrow keys as opposed to wasd was more natural for me but it is a bit freakish.

Played CSS for years with the arrow keys. Right click to jump. Finally moved to wasd as I was getting sick of going to my mates and having to change their config. As well as editing a new installed game rather than just being able to play.

One of the best reasons to use WASD is that most games come defaulted to these keys, so it's a PITA to have to change the keys for game after game.

I use arrow keys for competition. I use default for SP and such.

Can use either, but always used arrows for Unreal Tournament Instagib.

Up/Down for forward and back,
Left/Right arrows for strafe left/right
Mouse for turning/looking
Right Shift for Ducking
Left click shoot
Right click jump
Ctrl for something else but cant remember what! May have been to use something or the other.

I've always used the arrow keys, it means I can play for much longer because of the way I get to lean on my desk :)

I think I was using the arrow keys up until GTA 3 got released on the PC, then it started to make much more sense and seem much more comfortable using WASD. It allows my thumb to rest on the space bar and little finger on the Shift key with easy access to CTRL. I don't even think I'd need arrow keys much now, can't think of a single game or possibly even another task where I use them, if I need to navigate through menus or anything I use the mouse.

Being a lefty I've always used the arrow keys and it really, really, REALLY, annoys me when a game won't let me use them. (*cough* Dead Space *cough*)

For a left-hander they're in the best possible position. I tend to use this control system for most first person games:

Movement: Arrow Keys
Duck: RCtrl
Jump: Rshift
Run/Walk KP0
Lean left: delete
Lean right: page down
Reload/Melee: Enter
Shoot: Mouse 1
Aim/Zoom: Mouse 2
Use: Mouse 3
Grenades: Mouse 4
Chat: Mouse 5

Arrow keys and Number pad here :D

Movement: Arrow Keys
Jump: NP 0
Crouch: NP 1
Prone: NP 4
Run/Walk CTRL
Lean left: delete
Lean right: page down
Shoot: Mouse 1
Aim/Zoom: Mouse 2
Use: Mouse 3
Grenades: Mouse 4
Reload: Mouse Wheel Click
Melee: Mouse Wheel Up
Weopon Switch: Mouse Wheel Down
Chat: Y
Team Chat: T

Used arrows since Doom, although I've tried WASD numerous times I can't get on with them as my fingers clumsily catch other keys or forget where they are!!!

I do understand that WASD is better than Arrows and new players should start off on WASD, But for me i'm old and stuck in my ways and yeah I can't do FPS on joypad either!
