Well 512MB of memory comes in handy at ridiculously high resolutions. :)

Agree. I'm running a single x1900xt-x and its displaying FEAR with max details with 1920 x 1200 etc etc and i'm getting about 40fps average.

I dont think that a single x1900xt will be able to display any good FPS games with max res and details. But why get such a good monitor when your not going to take advantage of the eye candy..?

Just my two pence worth...

The X1900XTX will handle 2560x1600 pretty well.
I run my 256MB 7800GTX at 1920x1200 a lot and it's fine, even with AA + AF for most games, the only game i really have any trouble with is FEAR with all settings maxed at that res.
For 95% of games it will run them great, your'll just have trouble with newer graphically intensive games. You also have to remember that at such high res you dont even really need AA.

Quite a few games dont support over 1600x1200.

I'm after the best performance to hopefully coincide with the release of Oblivion.

I love it when a plan comes together:)

Can't see me running it at 2560 though:eek: Will be interesting to see how it performs. Far Cry is a lot smoother now with all details on full. Wasn't really playable on the 7800GTX unless I turned a few options down.
Roll on week commencing 20th March - been waiting for Oblivion for ages

I was just about to say it would be a good idea to wait for next week when the 7900GTX is out, to see how it compares to the X1900XTX.
But i just see you already ordered :p

Im in a similar boat, i dont play that many new games but enjoy playing CSsource, and HL2, but the only choice of res i can play on them is 1280x800 with my 7800GT and 3007WFP :(

What would be the best route to get a new GFX card?

I see that the 1800XT and 7800GTXs are a lot cheaper now so i could take that route, or is it best to just stick it out and wait for the next gen to come out?

Any help will be good.

If your looking at the X1800XT price range (then the 7900GTX will likely be out of consideration).
The X1800XT 512MB (even 256MB) is quicker than the 7800GTX & appears to be quicker than the 7900GT, from early info.
Thus the X1800XT 256MB or 512MB is a good choice.

I wouldnt bother with a 7800GTX or 1800XT because theres not much of a performance increase from what you already have. Best to go for a 7900GTX when there out next week or a 1900XTX.

On my system i can run HL2 or CSS @ 1920x1200, settings maxed out, with 4xAA and 16 AF so either of the above cards shouldnt have any problems at 2560x1600, atleast without AA, but at that res AA isnt needed much at all anyway.
