sums up the wee chap really.

I'm like so many others in this country, those who never thought he would be interesting and I have to say I was uttery wrong, The man was a wealth of talent and knowledge to which he was never selfish over either. The last program/series of his was amazing, it was where him and some friends/family took "his" steam engine for a tour of the country, he met all types of folk upon the journey and repayed them with hints and tips along his way, I think that series was like his walk to heaven, I honestly don`t think he could've had a better send of.
 
I remember seeing a lot of his programmes on the victorians/various steam engines and their roles in various stages of history. IIRC he found out that he had terminal cancer when he was filming his last series, instead of stopping the series, he carried on and finished filming. Not long after that he passed away :( R.I.P Fred
 
He could talk about such mundane and otherwise dull subjects with a passion and was a joy to watch. Plus his "old school" approach to demolition was something to behold.

A true legend.

I love the way he ignored all health and safty rules and guidelines.

one episode that comes to mind is him at the top of a chimney doing some repairs, no safety ropes just a few planks of wood and him swining around it without a care in the world chatting away to the camera as he battered bricks with his little hammer. I was on the edge of my seat terrified for him and he's talking about about flipping holidays! :eek:
 
at my old work some of the guys all went to see him when he was in the area and came back with signed one of there toolboxs rom the vansigned , the boss wasnt impressed :p

guy is a legend
