Free games that are a must play?!?

Warframe! A futuristic battle game where you use robotic power suits to battle armies of enemies throughout the solar system.

Theres an option to speed up gameplay by buying platinum to spend of weapons/warframes, but its entirely possible to play the game and create everything for yourself from farmed mats. Just takes longer.

Another vote for Path of Exile. Loads of fun (warning - if you have a flaky connection, don't play the hardcore game modes as it still has a bit of sychronisation difficulty for some people/some play styles, and perma-losing a character to network issues doesn't amuse). Or you could try the free demo of Diablo 3 and see if you fancy saving up £60 for it instead.

AlienSwarm is a great f2p game.
Realisticaly you need a full group of 4 to play it and in the long term it doesnt have much replayability.

Planetside 2.
Not much fun on your own, very steep learning curve for the first few hours.
You can totaly enjoy the game without spending a dime in the cash shop, especialy if you join up and play with other people.

Path of exile.

Rift goes free tomorrow, great game.

DC Universe Online is a good f2p game on steam.

Dota2 best f2p game in the world.

Quake Live if you fancy a challenge - you need to pay to get access to all maps, but the extremely high skill ceiling / level is the real challenge, and what will keep you coming back if you have the patience.

don't know if I would describe it as a must play but Firefall is pretty fantastic. open beta starts next month. It's like an open world tribes/unreal tournament kinda of game. If your a bit bored of generic fps it's worth a go but you do have to take into account that it's a beta and not a finished game.

RIFT is awful now it's gone f2p, I don't know if it was always like it but everything is shared, it's ****! There was this mission on the tutorial after you go back to the past, and you have this sort of magical device that plays a message when you use it on some machine. The only problem is, you have to use the machine yourself to get the quest progress, not just view the same message that somebody else is getting because they beat you to using the machine. There were about 30 people standing around it (yes there was only one machine) and each persons turn took about 15 seconds, people were getting so annoyed. Then there was another **** quest where you had to destroy mutant plants on a farm, and you had to destroy 6. No more than 4 would spawn at any given time, they'd take in excess of a minute to respawn and there were about 30 people trying that too, it became a case of simple 'go here, click x amount of interactive objects' quests taking absolutely ages and becoming frustration as hell, I enjoyed it for about an hour or two but then quit because of dumb **** like that.

The combat/graphics/world are great, but their quest system is a complete joke and then some.

I started playing RIFT the other day, haven't really noticed any issues so far. Don't have a clue what I'm doing, but don't remember any queue's for quests.

Started Marvel Heroes too which seems entertaining so far, think the lack of storage will get to me though since it looks like you need to pay real cash for any extra storage.

This, and you really don't have to spend any cash if you don't want to
