Looks like they got their way and shut down the debate.
Organisers were forced to evacuate the lecture hall and call the police after violence erupted, and windows were allegedly smashed.

Threatening notes left at the scene were allegedly put there by protesters.

Here's alt-right mouthpiece 'Sargon of Akkad' after he was forced to leave the building, no platform for him tonight!

Who is the violent, dangerous group preventing free speech?

Shocking!

Shame the protesters didn't get a bit of a kicking. Much more effective than just videoing them and providing a platform. Hashtagboxingstance.

Dressing in black and silencing free speech with acts and threats of violence. Were they also wearing Hugo Boss balaclavas too?

Don't do irony do they?

The left genuinely do not believe in free speech, it's not something they have ever claimed to support, at this point everyone who has an opposing view is essentially a Nazi so free game for violence.

"A group of people calling themselves London Antifa stormed a right-wing talk at a London university last night, with the intention of shutting it down."

Good folks on both sides, eh LabR@t?

I support free speech, from where ever comes from? You have a problem with free speech from certain groups then , eh mags?

That doesn't tell us much. The Tories are right-wing. We wouldn't (I hope) support a bunch of thugs storming the Tory party conference and shutting it down?

Giving a platform to nonsense views has an effect beyond simply 'allowing 'free speech'. It legitimises those views as something worth debate or discussion, when really they are nothing of the sort.

Free speech doesn't require free access to debate platforms in higher learning establishments. It's not a free speech issue .

Really, the issue is whether or not the university was right in considering the speaker's views debate-worthy. Should he have been no-platformed outright?

I've no idea on what thus guy's gig is, but he sounds like a dick. I don't think meaningful debate was lost here.

This worded exactly what I wanted to say, thanks.

Both sides are in the wrong. Again, if they werent getting publicity neither of these parties would be relevant or being asked to do talks, and yes they are as bad as each other.

So we should shut down flat-earth meetings, conspiracy theory forums, etc, etc.

Unless the law is being broken, whether your views are "nonsense" (subjective) or not, you have a right to hold and express them in this country.

As it should be.

The law already has provision to shut down groups promoting hatred or violence.

Oh well if he sounds like a dick but you haven't actually heard anything of what he's saying then it must be ok to stop him speaking. Guys, he sounds like a dick, it's fine

Are you suggesting 'right-wingers' in general are somehow comparable to Antifa? I can't tell....

If you watch the first few minutes on youtube(before Antifa crashes the party) you will see that there's nothing controversial being said

You have a right to hold them, not necessarily express them. That applies to both sides of the spectrum as you well know. This is just GD RSS feed looking for a fight again, don't bite.

That's fine, but it's not really relevant to anything I said, is it?

You absolutely have a right to freedom of expression in this country. 100%. So long as you do not break the law by inciting hatred or violence.

The university invited this person to give a talk. He had permission.

The planned and approved event was stopped by a militant activist group by means of violence and threats of violence.

They are not "just as bad as each other".
