Free Star Citizen access until Friday!

Indeed, create an account, download (30GB big so only do it if you can download in that time), log in and play.

Its a mini open universe with some missions and shooting/EVA/FPS with people or against people... If you're at Port Olisar, you can always ask to crew one of the bigger ships if someone has one on the pads... Or just get on board and wait till they take off and then spoke them :-)

Word of warning... Read the controls properly as many of the keys are mapped strange in my opinion, and its important to know if you press something what it will do! The controls are in the settings area...

If anyone is online when I am, I'm happy to spawn a larger ship for people to play in as I've got access to 3 multi-crew and 3 normal now.

I got this ages ago on the gold rewards when I got my 290x. I'll have to fire it up see what it's like. I did have a little look when I first got it but couldn't even get on the ship lol.

Thanks for the link. Downloading now. Very curious how it compares to ED.

I would say very different. Everything operates as a first person from an avatar, so you have to walk to you ship and move around as if it was real. Then you have the ship physics which feel much different to me and more how I remember Elite II, but at lower velocities.

The main thing is the social interaction, I had three people on my Freelancer, one flying, one in the turret and me sitting in the co-pilot seat just watching from the 3rd person view, but all the time I can move around the ship without it affecting what is going on (unless I cut power from one of the consoles).

"In case you have been living under a rock, or without internet access for the past 2 years Star Citizen is the vision of Chris Robert"

Hmm never heard of him, i wonder if he's ever worked with Chris Roberts?

I too am interested to see the views of people who have yet to back or get invested in the game, as they may not have been clouded by the views of the other backers and the issues that go on with game development... I'm curious if people enjoy the whole act as an avatar not as a ship and how they find the physics and combat.

Interesting. Particularly when taking into account the apparent convergence of the two games.
SC feels like it's started with an FPS in space, with the ship flight, trading and similar now being pulled together.
ED started with ship combat and trading, has introduced planetary landings and has announced a plan to have first person mode and multi-crew ships.

I've now got SC downloaded, so let me go have a poke around.

Stay out of the flight training module, for some reason they left it in even though it's been bugged to hell (well it is alpha) recently.

Suggest going into electronic access and getting into Vanduul swarm if you want a single player pew pew.

If you want other real life people hit the "universe" it's a small test universe where you can steal each other's ships. F12 brings up chat btw.

Sadly I always feel these free fly events put people off, the game has a lot of binds and typically doesn't hold your hand as it's in alpha, it expects people to look into it - and I can see why many don't. It lacks the instant accessibility of Elite Dangerous IMHO at least until it's further along the dev process.

I still play it though - I haven't loaded ED in about 6 months.

I might give it a go but I am more interested in Squadron 42 which looks to be more up my singleplayer alley and what I would want from a "Wing Commander" for the 21st century.

I've got Elite and put a few hours in but it just didnt grab me for some reason, can't really put my digit on it.

geez just been looking through the SC packages and some of the prices are astronomical. Why would you pay $330 (£229) for a game ? Top package is $18000 (£12494) !

Really looking forward to SQ42.

ED and SC I am happy to wait a couple of years for....along with second gen VR and GPUs to drive them.
