Freedom of the press - PLEASE HELP

I think you're missing Mo Amin off your list (there is a page on Wiki but I think it's far from doing him justice).

At the end of the day without people like this you'd have the majority of the population sitting in blissful ignorance, which may be the way some of you want it (if this is the case then might I suggest you stick to reading the Sun), but I think that it is important that someone has the courage to put themselves in danger to get the story told (without which I suspect there would be a lot more people dying of starvation as well as torture and murder victims).

Sorry but i have no sympathy for people who put themselves in this situations to start with, they know the risks and then we have all this "news" and time on it when it goes pete tong.

Its the same when people go on about soldiers who have lost their lives, they new the conditions when they signed up for army training.
As long as your alright eh? A sad and selfish attitude to have.

Exactly, afterall those friendly members of the Religion of Peace have a tendancy to video when they behead some one.

Of course, they are Muslim's and we all know that all Muslim's are the same.

The Palestinians have no history of chopping off heads, let alone killing journalists.

Did I say or imply that?

So what, they are just as likely to follow a new trend as the next man.

That goes against the "terrorist sympathiser" image that people seem to have of you.
Not so much "terrorist sympathiser" as it goes against the simplicity of his thinking: Palestinian - Good, Israel - Bad.

IMO you did. What else did you mean with your reference to the beheadings in Iraq?

There is no precedenent of any beheadings in Palestine, let alone journalists being killed - so what exactly do you base your comment on?

Its not just Iraq. Anyway I used the word 'tendency' in my post, which implies a behaviour associated with an identity but not necessarily present in all participants of that identity.

Are you implying that a terrorist cell in Gaza cannot copy other Al Q atrocities that have been u/l to the web? People learn and people copy behaviours exhibited by others especially of those that a person or group admires.

On what do you base this certainty?
I would have thought it's common sense. What message does this send to potential abductors? It tells them that abducting a journalist is going to get them an awful lot of attention, that they're going to have the world's press wrapped around their finger and generally that a kidnapped journalist is a great asset.

To those of you who have added the button . . . my thanks; you are good guys, you certainly have my respect for your humanity.
May I ask how adding a button to a website makes someone a "good guy" and is characteristic of "humanity?" It appears as though you remain unable to explain exactly how this scheme is supposed to aid his release, and in the midst of all of this, important questions have been raised as to the damage this little scheme could be doing to the campaign for his release.

I would not praise people for sending abductors the wrong message...

Button added to my blog. It's a good thing Palestinian terrorists regularly read my liberal, macgyver-leaning diatribes because now they'll see this button and release him straight away.

How come there's no buttons on websites for this guy, Gilad Shalit? He's been held for far longer than some dozy BBC journo.

BBC said:
Cpl Gilad Shalit, 20, was captured in June 2006 in a cross-border raid by Palestinian militants (terrorists really, but it was from the BBC site)

Notice the words "cross-border raid", in other words he was taken forcibly from his own Country and yet nobody is doing the same for him.

If you have any sort of editorial control over a web-site, or can influence someone who has, do please add a "button" to show your support for Alan.

Many thanks.

Alan? Was he a friend of yours?
Out of interest how will this help his plight? Could you tell me what good it will do?
