I was all set to "jump aboard" the 1440p Freesync train then discover borderless window is not supported, is this still the case?

Using multiple monitors, I find borderless Window a very useful feature.

Yes it's still the case, you have to be running in true full screen mode for FreeSync. Running multiple gpus in Xfire has the same limitation.

Both SLI and GSync work in windowed mode, just saying ;)

It's one thing that annoyed me with my old Xfire setup, many games only do a borderless window mode nowadays.

There are no games that only run in a window that require multi GPU.

You missed the point. Some people run multi monitors (like I used to) and having the option to switch out of a game and do other stuff on another monitor is very very useful. Having G-Sync/Freesync and SLI/CF working in borderless mode is a very very handy feature.

I can see why this feature is needed and having Gsync and SLI work in windows mode is nice. Something DX12 should fix for Crossfire. Freesync something AMD should look into.

Personally not something I would use.
They is some very clever Multi Display software out there you can use for switching between displays though so not all is lost using AMD.

My BenQ comes with display Pilot you can use this for all you multi display needs.

+1

VSR works on mgpu FS where as DSR Sli GS isn't an option I believe to even things up before the mud slinging commences.:p

Strong points..

End of the day AMD and Nvidia always cancel themselves out. To just boils down to the user and what he/she expects from what ever GPU they using.

Also seen a few people reporting stuttering with gsync and sli now. Tbh i had stuttering a while back with 780 sli and a non gsync screen. So probably more of a driver than gsync issue. I was set on a second 980ti but decided not to bother.

I know exactly the point as i have been CF and running 3 screens since 2006, the point was there are no games that only run in a window that need multi GPU and i can switch out and do things on the other screens just fine.

The only reason i wanted CF in windowed mode is so that i could stretch a game across 3 screens in PLP which you cant do in full screen mode, had to resort to SoftTH and now with new AMD cards i can in full screen mode.

So as the OP asks then, "Is borderless window mode supported with Freesync"?

Did you see me quote the OP, did you see me dispute the OP, no, i was replying to a specific point brought up by someone else.

And then my reply was to your point which you implied that you cant switch out to other screens if running A GAME in full screen with CF, i have been doing it for a decade.

A bit dry but realise why.

That's looking like it's a possibility with software if the title in your pick is running mgpu?

Maybe a FreeSync user could try that software out and see if it's doable?

While a minority there are some games that don't use a proper (exclusive) fullscreen mode and fake it using either variants of borderless window mode or sometimes configurations of non-exclusive fullscreen that don't work with FreeSync or CF. Some of them don't work with SLI but I think G-Sync work with them all now.

AFAIK If you just want VSR style super-sampling you can downsample with SLI - while often compared to each other VSR and DSR aren't like for like feature implementations each have different strengths and weaknesses - DSR does some extra processing (which makes mgpu support more of a problem) to try and preserve detail within surfaces as well as some enhancement of edges while VSR is much more focused on making the edges of objects look higher resolution.

And how many games that do that require multi GPU.

Damn it, CandyCrush is not using CF.

CF does not work in windowed mode outside of Mantle, its being borderless or not makes no difference.

So that stops Freesync working? Or are you saying you don't bother running Borderless and just tab out? I can think of many games that require mGPU but as we are not really helping the OP, I will let you have your say and leave it at that ;)

No bud.

But the answer to the OPs question is that Freesync doe not work in borderless window. While you or I may not find this a problem the OP clearly does and the simple answer is NO. :)
