FreeSync monitors hit mass production, coming in Jan-Feb

Hope a nvidia enabled one comes up for 200 or less thats 27" and 1440 with 120 or better refresh rates and isnt tn.

I can dream..

Still dunno why montiors are expensive compared to modern lcd tvs i mean the only thing that monitors do better is better response rates so less input lag the rest is the same on tvs heck there even ISP panels most of em like the 50" blaupunkt i just got for £230. Monitors seriously need to start reducing in price cos the specs apart from what i mentioned is more or less similar. Maybe a bit better as well in dpi but meh doubt ppl care that much as long as text is perfectly readable.

It is economy of scale, if you sell a million TV's you can get away with things that selling a few thousand monitors you cant
You'll notice that a bog standard 24" 1080p monitor is under £100, yet a "gamer" version is a few hundred, because each feature you add makes it ever more niche and less likely to sell enmasse

I'm sure there will be a gsync screen of that spec before async. I think nvidia just out of principle will stick with gsync, first idea, first to market and will not want to touch anything adopted by AMD.

You do realise Nvidia is on the board of directors of the organisation that has approved adaptive sync?

And do you also realise that adaptive sync is part of the display port 1.2a and 1.3 specification?

I believe NVidia did publicly say they wont be supporting it
I guess like us they waiting to see how popular it will be
if it had been hdmi it would been a lot more popular but o well

Tom Peterson did say that they will be continuing to work on G-Sync and expect more to come. He didn't rule out that A-Sync would never be supported but it isn't on the cards for now.

Skip to 1:27:15 for that info and take as you will.

wasn't the one I was thinking of, not that it matters
I guess they been asked it a lot times :)

Nice to see Nvidia users being honest about GSync.... Got a feeling tho that AMD users will not be so honest when it comes to Freesync. It's going to be the best invention since the wheel even if its not.

You have this funny knack of taking everything and turning it into an AMD - Nvidia comparison.

Just an observation.

If AMD users find out that Nvidia users have been overstating sync benefits just to get a "win" on forums, I imagine they'll be pretty ticked off.

I agree. Nothing worse than misleading posts and falsities being said, just to try and make your chosen purchase look better than it is. This is why I try to be as honest as possible so people don't waste their hard earned money.

Off topic but you said your 3930k is degrading - I've just got one, what volts have you been putting through it? In case I should back off - I don't plan to upgrade for a while now.

they pretty much aimed gsync at fps players, which was me once but not for a long time, im over fast tn panels,
if I was sitting at a desk I guess it wouldn't be too bad, but not the way I use a computer now

freesync will be more of the same I guess
they did say freesync will have even less delay tho, we have to see on that too :)

I have to use 1.57v to try and squeeze a 5Ghz run but was previously only 1.495V. Temps are good but I did do a lot of benching and I am now suffering for that.

You are pretty much spot on. :D Seriously though, I just hate everything AMD, they are like a bad smell no washing or deodorant can get rid of.

Genuine question LampChop, which i'll probably regret asking :) But what exactly is it about AMD that you "hate" ?

I can understand having a preference, but for a grown man to vehemently hate a company without any apparent reason seems odd to me.

I run 2x290x's pushing for 90+ fps in most games because that is what I like. I've been waiting to get a higher res high refresh panel for 3+ years, there just aren't really any. Freesync should be seeing an increase in the number of 1440p 144hz panels as not surprisingly the industry as a whole is waiting for a standard to adhere to(partially because they are forced to move forwards, partially because they don't want to be left behind a feature that other guys have). Companies don't want to make one panel for g-sync then release a new monitor 6 months later that supports DP 1.2a/freesync, they want to make one panel.

Freesync is incidental, I'll try it out but it's primary ability is to smooth out frame rate which has a MUCH larger impact the lower the frame rate.

The bigger the variation in frame rate the less smooth a game is, the lower this range is(ie 40-70 vs 60-90fps) the less smooth a game is. The higher frame rate and lower variability the less effect freesync/g-sync has.

Mantle giving higher minimums both increases the range and reduces the variability in frame rates. Mantle is bad for freesync :p

Like I said, I've wanted a high refresh higher res panel for... well since about 1995 when I started building my own computers :p

Just looks to me like freesync is pushing a new range of panels from manufacturers at a time when frankly they need a 144hz/1440p panel to compete with the competition. To me freesync is the likely route by which I get the panel I want. If it makes Watchdogs or Assassins Creed stutter less, that is just a bonus.

Interesting (mis)use of the word panel. It seems you are using it to mean monitor. Because actually, because of gsync, because of the ROG Swift, a 144hz 1440p panel does now exist, so the likelyhood of a freesync monitor using this same panel actually increased... AMD just need to convince a scaler maker to support 1440@144

Very true... People who never used 120hz think 60hz is perfect, its not till you try 120hz you notice the effect right away and think how did I manage with 60hz lol Its this reason am still stuck with 1080p.

I hoping Freesync is a success, but if it isn't then I can happy carry on no loss to me.

I have never used 120hz and i dont think 60hz is perfect, i cant wait to move on to 120hz or more, so now what :D

I completed DeadSpace2 back when I was still using my old 60Hz BenQ G2222HDL. Decided to revisit the game again recently on my 120Hz Sammy, and I was like "woooot....what sorcery is this!?" :p
