FreeSync monitors hit mass production, coming in Jan-Feb

A comment that I've just read on one of the monitor news articles ( cant bleedin well find it now :() anyway the gist of it was that seeing as the AMD solution is truly open, being due to the open standard adaptive sync, but there are only two players in the gamers market, Nvidia and AMD, does that make it just as proprietary as Gsync.

Now although I do understand the point the guy was trying to make, its not really AMD's fault that there is only two players in the market, I mean Intel could step up to the plate and build a decent gaming GPU one day and they would be free to utilise adaptive sync.

Of course this glosses over the whole Adaptive sync is open but freesync is the proprietary AMD hardware/software part anyway side of things, but I thought it was an interesting post by someone commenting on one of the monitor launches.

There are people who play LoL etc on laptops with an external monitor, Intel graphics may not be uber but a lot do use them for gaming. You have to think though, this is a tech that will be with us for a very long time, possibly forever.

Instead creating a new thread..

If you have two monitors and two GPUs can you run each display of a single GPU or does both displays need to be connected to the top card?

As I understand it...

Crossfire requires all display outputs to come from the primary display adaptor, so all displays on top card.

Sli can use any display output from any card.

With amd you may be able to run displays from other cards but with crossfire disabled

am i right in thinking if you get a gsync monitor then your tied in to using nvidia and vice versa with freesync and amd, or you will be stuck with the gpu vendor if you wnt to use the sync features

The monitors will work with other vendors, but obviously the sync feature won't unless it becomes supported at a later date.

I said it's better? Since when how can I without even trying both?

If you go back you will see on paper Freesync could be the better of the two.

Nvidia have already released a statement saying that gsync will support whatever the panel supports, if that is 1-500hz then gsync supports it. amd have released a just as imaginary set of "potential" specs and you use it as the basis of an assumtption

The exact wording you used to support freesync is irrelevant, you were clearly saying that gsync doesnt work and cant work below 30fps but freesync can and will, even when we pointed out to you that nvidia had already said that gsync supports whatever the panel does

If I put up an opinion, whatever wriggle words I use like "could" and my opinion turns out to be wrong, I will happily admit that my opinion was wrong. Be a man and just admit that.

People are saying that freesync will kill off gsync. It could, but my opinion is that it wont because more people own nvidia gpus, so the market is bigger. Bookmark this post, if in 1 years time there are no gsync monitors on sale then I was wrong and I will gladly admit that.

So CES 2015 kicks off today and I am sure the review sites will be hunting down the Freesync monitors and reporting back on what they are shown. Exciting times :D

yeah it'll be great to get some apples to apples comparisons going with gsync. Hopefully a bit of competition will get the both out of both teams, and the best monitors for all of us

Considering upgrading my budget Asus monitor but things have moved on since I bought this monitor. From my limited research I think I want a 1440p, IPS, Freesync, 60hz monitor - don't see the point in a 144hz as I doubt my 290 is going to be pushing frame rates that high.

Given time there will be plenty of choice and fingers crossed, Freesync works as well as G-Sync.

CooL beans and I look forward to Ryan from PCPer giving his feedback. He is a big proponent of this tech, so it will be given a thorough testing.
