Freesync question

Does Freesync have to be turned on in game?

I have a Vega 64 and FS monitor. I have enabled FS in radeon settings and on my monitor (AD27Q).

On AC: Odyssey, I set V-Sync to off. However, I was still getting tearing in game, despite running at a solid 55-60fps. When I switched it on, the tearing is greatly reduced, but I don't know if I'm using ordinary V-Sync or FS. There actually is no FS option in AC anyway, just v-sync on, off or adaptive. Are there any other settings I should be aware of please?

Enable freesync on the monitor and the graphics card. Play a game, check to see if the refresh rate and the fps are syncing properly (If you monitor can display the refresh rate?)

All i know is generally tho could be game specific for some is turn off vsync ingame and enable freesync in amd drivers panel under display tab. Im not sure but u could enable enhanced vsync to work along side freesync in global options where the game profiles tab is tho not sure about it. Should work. You can test if fs works by dling the pendulum demo maybe.

Maybe also you might do is use amd drivers to force a fps limit so it doesnt go above monitors refresh rate so fs should be working as its in the fs refresh rate range of the monitor. Tho a few fps down from max monitor refresh rate for some reason ppl say to do.

Turning it off in game alongside triplebuffering is that not how it is done? That is how gsync works anyways you set to on in drivers and enable to always on or always on a per game profile.

As far as the game was concerned you told it not to sync or triplebuffer because it was dumb and would end up putting both on and adding lag etc. The fps is also limited for this reason on Nvidia going just 3fps below the cap made sure nothing was engaged and you ran with basically 1 frame of delay. Try that and reduce the cap until you notice the mouse change. That should feel like removing a weight from the cursor.

Some games and engines required manual edits like Rocket League required cfg edits to force disable triplebuffering and vsync and while there oneframethreadlag could also be removed. And you could use the bmaxsmoothframerate and minframerate to act as a cap from 0 to 144 or 240. Consisering this is UE3 this is a fix for a LOT of games! :)

I doubt I have to worry about going above the monies refresh rate. It’s a 144hz.

I think I’ve solved it anyway. I had my monitor set at 60hz in windows for some reason and a 60fps cap in AC. I set the monitor to 144hz in windows, disabled frame capping and switched v-sync off. It appears to have done the trick so far. Doing quick sweep rounds and it’s smooth as butter.

I assume you are talking about the Aorus AD27QD Monitor.
It has both the traditional OSD Menu as well as a software one.
You would need to install the usb provided cable from the monitor to your PC though in order to get it to work.

There, you will be able to make changed using your mouse instead of the toggle on the monitor. Have you done that yet? Have you downloaded the software directly from Gigabyte?

Do you use HDMI or DP? Asking because until firmware F06 that monitor had issues with HDMI Freesync, and Freesync only works on Port 2.

What else was going on with the prior firmware?
Any reason to update?

Just a quick look online found out that there were issues with this monitor and Freesync.
Last update F06 fixed the issues with Xbox One and HDMI.

I am impressed Gigabyte has the firmware out for the users to upgrade. Seems I would consider their monitors for a replacement when the 2730Z dies.

Cannot find the V005 bios for my 2730Z to make it GSync compatible :/

Just a quick note, Vsync on or off doesn't matter if your framerate is in the Freesync range.

They have a F07 now too. I wish they made it clear what those updates do.

I've got Freesynch working with my RTX card on my new (unsupported) monitor.
I use NVIDIA fast synch along with it which works nicely, enabled via NVIDIA control panel. I need to use some kind of v-synch or I do get tearing.
