Spotted this review for an app called Movie Stiller. I had to screenshot it.
I've hi-lighted the important bit. Also posted it to failblog. Hopefully it might make the front page.

For any decent run size the price of the book is pennies - nothing compared to having to pay 20% VAT on ebooks.

Even small runs are quite competitive compared to VAT. The idea that an ebook should cost pennies is ridiculous, the money has always been in research, writing and marketing costs.

You're still paying for the author's time and skill. Or are you arguing that they should be free? After all, the marginal distribution cost is next to zero!

Most of the money doesn't go to the author. Are you saying that the prices should be artificially high to make sure that the organization which spent next to no money publishing the book gets far more than they would have with a paper book, which has actual manufacturing, printing, binding, storage and shipping costs?

Don't forget the seller's cut which is also much higher for physical items.

Exactly. It really peeves myself and my gf that if your want a digital version then you either pay full RRP or in some cases more yet you can always go buy the same book from the high street or online for about 2/3rds of the price. And they had to make and ship those books as well.

A good anology would be that if there was a premium to be charged buying a game from steam/origin compared to buying the prysical disc.

All I can see atm is that publishers make more money per ebook sold and the author gets nothing extra.
