Yes this mobo I picked out and ordered has a serial but the thing is our mail sort machines require 2 serial ports, 1 to drive the touchscreen/keyboard interface and the 2nd to loop via an addon card that connects to the touchscreen display!
Any Wyse R-class unit will have two serial ports. They use pxe boot, so can run pretty much any os you throw at it, or run Embedded windows/CE/Linux/Wyse ThinOS.
I need 2 PCI slots, 2 Serial slots so any TC still won't be enough
It's all be looked into already hence why this project is called the costs savings project! The mobo cost just over £35, cpu was similar (Celery dual core) and a 1GB RAM stick. A far better cost option than getting the innards new from the parent company in the motherland (£3000~)
Unless someone knows of such a small unit with 2 PCI slots (or 1 slot with a spare bay for an adapter dongle to fit in!)Should be cheap too as we have many machines these currently go in!
Yes friend, one extra of these:
1 PCI slot on the mobo + another empty bay on the case as the PCI touchscreen IO card has a dongle connected to it via ribbon cable which then slots into a spare bay. Those are the only expansion type connections required.
Oh and PS/2 is also required, almost forgot about that.
So 2x Serial
1x PCI slot
1x PCI bay
PS/2 connections
Cheap (only running DOS and Linux)
