They are? My dogs have all come though my stepdad who was a dog handler, when they were end of service, they came house dogs. And pretty much every other dog handler that I've met had several dogs, ones that had come from retirement, as well as their working ones.

My old dog was just like this. He was awesome.

Prince Williams guard dogs are an example. They often go to live with their handlers but if a home with a competent person cannot be found they will be euthanized due to their behaviour possibly being difficult.

Used to know somebody with 2 big police dogs, they kept them for years after their service but somebody has to volunteer to do that I guess

That's something a lot of people that get upset about it seem to gloss over, there have to be the people to want (and be able) to take them on, which is fairly low unfortunately.

On topic of rescues....sleepy pug, snore, snore, snore.
