Front/back flips

I find it difficult to do a forward roll :(

I get half way then bottle out - LOL

That sounds too stupid to be true.

Lol, how the hell? If you manage to get halfway, then surely all you can do is roll forwards anyway under momentum, thus completing said forward roll!

used to be able to do backflips on my bmx , because i was so scared of landing on my head i quite often ended up over rotating and majorly hurting my ****

you just need to look behind you as much as you can and the rest of your body follows

only seen on broken neck in person , was not nice though !!!

to be fair though i learnt them in a foam pit , still bloody hurt when i landed on my head in it aswell!!!!

has anyone here ever landed on their neck/back or seen someone do this?

i havnt seen any1 land on the neck/back, but i have seen some1 end up doing a faceplant

at least i think it was a front flip he was trying to do.

Btw, you shouldn't really be doing forward rolls as a grown up. You should go over the shoulder rather than the collapsed neck.

Despite this, I have landed on my neck doing a forward flip. It scares you more than it hurts. There is a split second where you're not sure you're paralysed if you move.

Get yourself a mat and a mate to stand at your side. Your mate should have one of their arms out horizontally to support your back, the other can grab a leg and bundle you over their horizontal arm which acts as a pivot point for the spin.

This generally gets you used to throwing your weight backwards and over your head. Once confident you can get the force yourself, your mate can just use their arm as a pivot point.

Remember to warm up before you try any flips.

I never got on with that technique at all, I went to practice in the foam pits at the gym. Great fun doing tumbles into them :D

I can flip but always hurt myself doing rolls when not on mats.

I' landed head first many times into the pit when messing around, often getting stuck upside down. Not once did it hurt though =/

Front flips are easier to attempt, but harder to actually get right because you need a faster and higher rotation with a blind landing. Whereas, with backflips you only have to beat "the fear"

This means, that although going backwards is technically easier, its harder to make yourself actually do it! I learnt by doing back handsprings initially and then working to one handed, and finally all the way over :D

Not done one for a few years now, although I have been known when drunk to bust out a few other break-dance moves when the moment calls :P

I learnt handsprings long after I could backflip. I guess I'm very confident which makes it easier for me to do backflips but yes, the skill required for a backflip is far lower.

Trampolines are nothing like doing proper standing flips, anyone can just get on a trampoline and flip both ways with the confidence and zero training.
Yeah, sure, whatever.

Yes, they're easier than doing it without, as well as completely different (unless you can jump like a frog), but if you're talking about landing on your feet afterwards, it's not that easy.

Regarding my previous post, I was on a bouncy castle. Got half way round then bottled it, kinda flipped out mid air and landed wierd on the back of my neck in the grooves of the bouncy castle floor :p Funny thing is, I rolled about for 5min then got up and walked away, sat down for like 10minutes then the adrenaline or something wore off then I got picked up and then went to hospital :p
