Hi all,

I'm going to be buying an NZXT s340 very soon. It has space for 2 fans at the front. I have a couple of 120mm fans lying around ready to go, 2 are PWM and 1 is just 3 pin. . My question is, should these fans be PWM or just 3 pin? I'm not really bothered by noise and would take Cooling over slight noise any day as I game with headphones on.

Also, any particular headers I should plug them into? Im thinking of plugging the rear fan (included with the case) into the 2nd CPU fan hdr as it will be directly behind my CPU air cooler so matching the speed of that will be beneficial to vent out CPU waste air. But I am not familiar with the different Motherboard, or SYS fan headers. And how they behave R.E case fans.

Thanks.

Hi

It is up to you if you want to have full control of the fans or not. If you want the case look better inside or not. Personally I have fan controller and none of my fans are PWM.

Either type of fan will cool as well as its spec'd to. Ie it'll push as much air as it can when it's running at full speed. The argument against PWM is that some have been known to tick when not running at full speed. Not particularly loudly but if you're aiming for a silent PC, a source of irritation. The important thing is probably what headers you have available to plug fans into. If you're talking motherboard control it'll have either 3 or 4 pin headers or a mix. Check your motherboard manual to see what you've got and whether it does PWM or voltage control.
If you're looking at a fan controller it'll have (usually) one or the other.
