Fronting

How?

OP, this kind of behaviour will either a. leave you with no friends, or b. leave you with paint stripper all over your car.

I'm not sure why you'd want to interfere in people's lives so much, especially when it has no impact on yourself.

Exactley, sure if you know your mates been commiting rapes then go ahead contact the police but for this

really

In the event of an accident, all third party cover is still provided isn't it?

In which case, leave them to it, the only people who will suffer will be themselves and I think it's a bit naive to believe insurance companies would merrily slash all our premiums in the event fronting started being stamped out.

No one likes a grass :p

Don't be a grass.

We all know people who do it, it's between them and the insurance company.
They'll just find another reason to charge ridiculous amounts for insurance, it won't affect your policy at all, learn now, insurance companys are greedy and selfish.

Insurers make very small amounts of money comparitively on premiums. It is the investment of premiums that makes them their cash.

Call this instead :D.

Leave it, don't leave it to be honest it won't affect you either way.

I don't see why people are saying wait until they have an accident surely if the insurance company can't prove fronting they have to pay out, and whats to say your friend and his mum/dad have legit insurance and he crashed on the rare hand full of times he used the car that year.

Keyboards at dawn is the best way to settle this before it ends in a reasonable discussion :)

I will stand and bang all day eerrry day
Yes. Fronting, as generally accepted as a term in car insurance, is fraud. No insurance company accepts fraud.

When I was a 17 I had 3 different insurance company confirm that having my mum down as a main driver but with me driving the car primarily whilst was "fronting" in the eyes of the industry, it was not against their company policy. I even got it in writing from Direct Line before taking out cover with them because they are the ones who I went with back then.

The only reason people go on about it on here is because of misinformation given out by the media when confusing general insurance fraud with actual company policy and the obvious desire of many posters on here to get on their high horse over it. See claiming for whiplash for another example of this on here.

And if 'company policy' says that it is not allowed?

There was something very wrong if they told you that or you misunderstood. I used to work at Directline a few years ago and it was perfectly acceptable to have a parent as the policy holder, the risk was weighted on whoever was the main driver which had to be answered honestly. They did refuse payouts when it was clear that the child was the main user rather than the parent if this hadn't been specified.

And if 'company policy' says that it is not allowed?

Then you are not allowed to do it
My point is some companies allow it so maybe the person who the OP is pathetically wanting to grass in insurer is well aware of the situation.

Gribs, I have it in writing at my parents house from Direct Line, next time I go home ill get it if its still there with my pass plus certificate etc.

It's a funny one because how can you tell if they are 'fronting' necessarily, they might have declared to the insurers that they use the vehicle say, 60/40 between the 'main driver' and the younger person - that would take some serious investigative work to prove 'wrong' especially if say the young person used it for short jaunts but the parent used it for longer trips, or if it was insured annually and the young person used it exclusively when home from Uni and the parent used it when they were away. Added to that it is pretty much a civil matter between the insured and the insurer.

Which I imagine is the view the police would take, in that they have far better things to do with their time than intervene in a largely civil matter which would take a large amount of expense and resources to investigate to see if there is even an offence committed.

Stuff the letter. What does your insurance policy actually say.
