frozen windshields

Too cold for that at the moment. At 7:00 this morning I chucked cold water on the screen (whilst the wipers were on) and it froze on contact with the glass. It's certainly cold as I remember it ever being in my years driving.

it was -4 this morning in wakefield.

I certainly cant remember it being that low for a long while.

Use cold water, and turn the wipers on straight away (the water should unfreeze them very quickly), job's a good'un.

hahaha yeah if you want to bugger the wipers that can pull the rubber blade from the body or bugger the splines on the wiper arm that connects to the spindle.

Huh? Race engines go bang all the time, and you can't tell me they aren't maintained properly.

Oh and as for LEAP, they may be a tree-hugger group but the page is quite factual.

Agreed but engine failure is not usually down to having it thrashed when correctly operating, engine speed alone isn't the factor. Excaliborg was implying idling won't cause damage but thrashing it will, this is incorrect.

my car is parked outside (too big for my garage) in shade until midday and the last few mornings it's well iced up.

i'm thinking of using an old blanket jsut during the worst of this weather

any ideas/ tips on what works well appreciated :)

Cardboard.

This thread only need this reply, used it when working in the clubs, driving home at 4am meant that there was never any chance of sunshine to thaw things out. shut the electrics off with the wipers up the screen, then tuck a flattened cardboard box under them. Now more frost.

I always used to get water in forming on the inside of my windscreen/rear window, but i have now put in two of the little packets of silica gel (the ones you get with new shoes) and i haven't had a problem since!

Scrape a little off so you can barely see. Drive thinking 'oh god this was a mistake' until your air con is warm then put it up full on windscreen, then vents pointed to side windows.

thanks for insulting my intelligence.

np m8 :D.

no dident mean it like that but you can bugger wipers up if they are frozen to the screen and you turn yo wipers on that can buger the wiper blade itself or the splines that drive the arm.

never done it meself but ive seen it done im a mechanic well use to be im and engineer now doing crank grinding etc
