Frustrated with Linux, can it really be this user un-friendly?

ps you were working as a 'Unix engineer' in 1989?

Yup. First installed AIX 2.2 on an IBM RT6150 in around 1988 and got qualified as a SCO Xenix engineer in 1989. This was when Xenix-Net (Unix with TCP/IP networking enabled) required an 80186-based Thick Ethernet card from Excelan which cost £800! And you had to make the drop cables yourself :shudder:

I install Ubuntu for a group of retired pensioners who use it on their laptops on a daily basis.
After the initial shock which usually lasts about 2 days, none have them have asked for help. They get on with it and have nothing but praise for the OS.

Could you please ask one to call round and help me to install Skype :D

Then again, AFAIK, you still can't send SMS messages via the Linux Skype.
