Noticed the other day that there has been roadworks down the road that have been moving up the road bit by bit over the last few weeks.
Also noticed they seemed to be digging up between bt access panels in the floor, yesterday I saw there was a small sign up that had the word fibre in it (could see the rest, was only driving past). Is this likely FTTP being installed to the poles so anyone from the houses that connect to these poles can order FTTP? (so the drop wire is the only thing changed).

What does this say about your exchange? https://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

It should tell you whether or not you're in line for fttp/fttc. Word of warning though, BTs activation dates should be taken with a massive spoonful of salt! Personally, I was expecting our exchange to be online by the summer, then it got put back to September and we had to have an engineer out for an unrelated issue who kindly overhauled our master socket in anticipation for our imminent "go live" date which he was under the impression would be any day now... We've now got a December date. I'm not holding my breathe :p

Its ok i've been looking at Samknows for years. :)

These works are only a few hundred meters from my house but it changes to a different exchange about 50 meters away.
The exchange and cab the properties that are fed from the poles that the roadworks seems to be feeding are already FTTC enabled.

My own exchange is getting FTTC/FTTP, the cab i'm on has its FTTC cab installed since August but its not gone live yet (31/12/14, but i understand this is a generic place holder that a lot of cabs are under).

Sorry to hijack I've checked Samknows and it says I'm FTTP available but I have no idea how to go about getting it

Don't get FTTP and FTTC mixed up.

FTTC (most common) is fibre from the exchange to your local green cabinet, the rest is picked up by copper - easy to order via any of the mainstream ISPs such as BT, TalkTalk, Plusnet, Sky etc

FTTP is fibre to the premises, very expensive and only in very limited areas - not many ISPs offer it

Lucky bugger, you seem to be extremely close to the exchange and your PCP cabinet. So essentially any product you go with, you should achieve full speeds.

What costs do you not understand?

The cost depends how far you are from the distribution node. Where all the green cabinets in your local area go back too. As this is where they run the fibre cable.

If its 800-900m away its £1800 + £750 and £1118 a year line rental. So yes its expensive :O

Is that just FTTP OD or is that the standard FTTP?
