Update on the car: no engine lights since posting, have been revving harder and changing later until I get a chance to go out to a motorway. Got some Redex on order as it can't hurt

Just buy a tank of decent high octane fuel. Octane not important but they will have more additives and be more effective than redex

You can dampen it but it's still out of balance compared to an even cylinder count and does not have the advantage of 5 which can manipulate the firing order to help.

I did say try

Skip the paint thinners and head straight for the methanol

It even reduces CO, HC and NOx quite substantially over petrol

Distilling whiskey better. You can drink and run you car tax free
