Fuggan's Abbey Dash Assault

Day 44.
Closing in on race week already! Can't believe how fast the time has flown by, can't believe I'm into week 7 of training!

Was out tonight with my brother again for a decent session of race-pace running. Warmed up for 10 minutes at about 5:30/km then ran for 20 minutes at race pace and cooled off for a following 10 mins.

Got some decent speed on the go in the pace section and managed to hold 4:20 fairly comfortably for the duration and even stuck in a faster stretch at the end for the last 300m!

Felt good!

Cheers all.

Day 45.
Steady hour at an average pace of 5:15/km tonight. One of the last 'longer' runs until we get into taper week.

Treated myself to a new top, shorts and some gloves at lunch to keep me interested for the last week. :p

Always nice to treat yourself. :)

I run with Sweatshop and they have a running group called SRC and they give you free stuff for going each week. After 50 weeks (in a 52 week block from when you start) you get to choose a free pair of trainers up to £100. I'm on 40 stamps so far from 40 weeks, only 10 weeks left for me.

Once I've done this 50 though I'm treating myself personally to a new Garmin I think or failing that even some Nike ID Pegasus instead.

Pretty cool scheme that. What happens if you're ill for a few weeks? Do you have to run once a week for 50 consecutive weeks out of the 50? Good dedication if so!

Day 46.
Double easy session today. Was out at 6:30am this morning and again at about 6:30pm for a 30min easy jog. ****ing freezing both times! :p

It's definitely been getting colder over the last week. Won't be long before it's a jacket every evening. Already on the gloves each run as my hands are getting numb!!!

And if you're ill or go on holiday it's tough. The 50 stamps have to come from a 52 week period. I've not missed a single week yet so only need 10 stamps out of 12 weeks. :D

Good effort that! I'd be a bit gutted if I'd got 40 or so weeks racked up and then fell ill though, but yeah, good crack at that.

Rest day today so sofa bound, aaah.

Day 48.
Last tough session today I think before the race!

15 x 1min running up a shallow hill with a walk back down in between each one as recovery. Was ****ing it down too!

No need for any more hard sessions now with race day being next week. Just follow the plan as intended, enjoy the sessions and just make sure you're well rested both physically and mentally come race day.

Not forgetting that nutrition and sleep are very important as well. :)

Yeah, did a 45 min easy run yesterday and planning 30mins steady eddy tonight.

Going to continue to do a bit of speed work tomorrow but nowhere near the volume of training I've done in previous weeks. MASSIVE feed on Friday night then grazing throughout the Saturday, up early for a race Sunday! Excited!

Race eve!

Bit of weird week. Done a few light runs this week and one short speed session to try and keep myself feeling sharp. Stayed injury free up until now but sod's law I woke up this morning and my lower back was hurting, putting it down to having slept funny or something, god knows what else it could be, hardly done anything all week!

Had a massive feed of pasta last night, couldn't eat another bite! Just keeping it fairly light tonight, been grazing on food here and there all day and just want to feel fresh in the morning so no massive dinner. Planning on just a jacket spud with some beans on.

About to head out to the gym for a jacuzzi and sauna then will get home and get my tights on, charge my Garmin, pin my number on my tee and hit the hay! Up extra early in the morning for porridge a good 3hrs before race and a lucozade on the way down then BOOM!

Good luck, I've got no doubt that you'll smash it. And fair play for sticking to the training plan pretty much as it was set out.

Glad you've been injury free for the most part as well. :)

Bit of a gutting race tbh. Finished in 45:11.

Not too bad a time but could have had another two minutes off it. I was cruising along at great pace right from the start. Started off at 4:30 for the first K, then 4:29, 4:28. Ran kilometer 6 in 4:15 and felt good. At the start of k #7 I was chugging along at about 4:10 and all of a sudden got this god awful stitch and couldn't hold it. Right down my right side of my abs. Almost started crying :(

So gutting, had to slow it to about 5:30 just to get to the finish. Proper disappointed.

I think it was lack of race-pace training for that length of time what did me, can't think of anything else as I've had the same breakfast and time before running period that I did in training and I was fine.

Will be back next year for sure!

:(

Gutted for you mate, really am. Chin up though, get back on it and no doubt you'll beat your PB next year.

Do you mind traveling for races and do you drive at all? If so then I think the Trafford 10K in March next year could be a good race for you. A flat course and good field similar to the Abbey Dash. Only trouble is transport if you don't drive. Pretty sure they'll be other local races for you as well either way.
