Fuji X Series

X-E4 has sold now on eBay, delivery address is London Film School. Looks like it’s going to make some videos :D

E-infinity looks like the best place to get an X-T3 for £729 new. Fuji refurb store is out of stock and £799.

I predict you'll have sold it in favour of an X-T4 within a month. Why not save time and go for the X-T4 instead?

I dunno, I did read up and I couldn't really justify the cost for IBIS and battery upgrades. I don't do video at all.

So I have the Fuji 55-200 for wildlife and distant landscapes, the 35mm for portrait and a Samyang wideangle. I'm in the market to replace one with a decent upgrade. I'm not sure whether to invest in the 70-300 (if I can find one), or the 12-24 as I take a lot of landscapes. There's a whole host of new lenses I'd like, but budget prevents it. I have about £600 to spend, which would include the sale of one of the above. Any standout suggestions?

From your options the short answer from me would be the 10-24 (I assume you meant 10?).
I sold my 55-200 and bought the 70-300 on release and I am still very happy with that decision. IQ wise they aren't far apart, the 70-300 is sharper beyond 150ish but there's not much in it.
With your current setup I believe you would benefit more from the 10-24 than the 70-300. You're really only gaining a 100mm at the long end and only you know if that would be useful - and you'd lose 15mm at the wide end don't forget.
The 10-24 is a very good lens and (I'm assuming the Samyang you mention is the 12mm f2?) I found my 10-24 @12mm sharper than the Samyang plus you get extra range and OIS if that's useful.
Two things to consider also, the 10-24 is renowned for being soft beyond 20mm and my copy is no different. Stopped down to f8 or so then it's perfectly usable but just something to bear in mind - almost think of it as a 10-20.
Secondly, just get the Version 1 of the 10-24. The V2 added the marked aperture ring and weather sealing and that's it, optically they are identical and a good used V1 is half the price of the V2.

Just playing devil's advocate I would throw the 16-80 int the mix as well. It's a very versatile lens with an excellent zoom range and from f5.6 onwards is very sharp indeed - or at least my copy is anyway.

Thankyou GMac11 that's great advice. I have considered an upgrade to the portrait side of things as I like lots of bokeh. But I think maybe the wide angle needs addressed first. Plus the samyang is manual, and whilst it's perfectly usable I prefer the AF etc. I'm not sure I'd get much for the Samyang, so may need to have a think on it.

Are second hand lenses the way to go? I've always been wary of pre-owned.

I think I've only ever purchased 4 or 5 lenses brand new in my time - the 70-300 was one of them. I have no issues buying used and bought my lenses from various places including eBay. Obviously with eBay the same caveats apply as with anything, good feedback etc but ultimately that's the chance you take. There are a good few bona fide companies that trade on eBay so you would get a generous returns period and warranty.
I would however absolutely check out the likes of MPB, WEX and LCE (London Camera Exchange) as they trade in used gear. I have bought a lot off those companies over the years and have never been disappointed. You also get returns/warranty so a good peace of mind as well. Just for example, I had a quick check on MPB and they have a used 10-24 for £444 which is a real bargain.

I'm going to invest in a 10-24. I want to get a new Polarising filter too, any recommendations in that department?

That is an excellent lenses. I've got a Gobe Circular polarizer which fits a few of my lenses and I'd say I'm very happy with it.

Also just wanted to mention the Viltrox lenses for anyone looking for new lenses on a budget. Got the 24mm 1.4f maybe 6 months ago and thrilled with the performance for the price. Quick autofocus for stills and decently sharp center wide open and sharpens up really well. Also built like a tank,

Why’s that?

Sorry mate, realised I never answered you!

Primary reason being support for the camera. Fuji have been good with "Kaizen" in the past, but honest given their expansion in the market and the sheer number of models they have available now, I think that's slowly dissipated over the past few years, and will likely go unspoken and forgotten. And that's not a criticism, it's an unavoidable consequence of their success and the resources they have.

Secondary reason is the obvious one- functionality. I don't really have FOMO and couldn't care less about having the latest and greatest (I still rock a Canon 40D when I use my L lenses!). Having said that, while I've never really seen IBIS and the like as a necessary, it's always good to have features you don't need every day, rather than discover a need and not have them, if you see what I mean?

Been a while since I posted in here. Was down in Cornwall last weekend. Having a play with ND filters, this one taken on the XF55-200. Cracking lens. I spent a lot on glass last year and it has been by far the best purchase. This is a great example of a photo most people would assume you went wide angle on.

This wasn't ND obviously but one of my favourite shots from the trip. This is why I love Fujifilm - it's such a natural looking image. Shoot this on an iPhone and all the computational BS renders the sun as a circle in the sky and produces images that look like a dogs mess.

I really love my 55-200 as well. It's the most surprising lens to me, not what I expected at all. But now I have the 10-24 to play with, as soon as the weather improves I'll be out.

Anyone else having issues with loading Fuji refurbished store website? Trying to buy a lens but images won't load and can't put items into cart?

Portrait lens for the Fuji XT 3. Looking for recommendations please. I’ve got the 35mm prime which is ok, but need something a bit bigger. Is the 56mm 1.2 a good alternative?

The 56mm is very good as is the 90mm f/2 which is incredibly sharp.

On the less expensive side a friend at work just invested in the recently released Sigma 56mm f1.4 and the shots she has been sharing look excellent.
