Abandon hope all ye who hates spoilers! Otherwise read on...
Just saw this movie last night and at first I was annoyed with the boring long drawn out scenes and apparent hammy acting from such good actors as Watts and Roth. However on reflection I was quite impressed at the directors vision to totally screw with the given 'rules' for these types of films to encourage hope from the audience that the family will make it out alive (even to the point when you think they have, and then cruelly taking it away from you!).
Just left me with an overall feeling of dread and lowness, which I guess was the whole point.
Not seen the original so I don't know how different the US version was.
