Abandon hope all ye who hates spoilers! Otherwise read on...

Just saw this movie last night and at first I was annoyed with the boring long drawn out scenes and apparent hammy acting from such good actors as Watts and Roth. However on reflection I was quite impressed at the directors vision to totally screw with the given 'rules' for these types of films to encourage hope from the audience that the family will make it out alive (even to the point when you think they have, and then cruelly taking it away from you!).

Just left me with an overall feeling of dread and lowness, which I guess was the whole point.

Not seen the original so I don't know how different the US version was.

I thought it was a great film. I love the bleak perfection it managed to capture and the overall crisp style. I wouldn't mind watching the original if I'm honest, but then I've still got all the Infernal Affairs to work my way through too! :p

spoiler tag might be approriate there......

Either way not seen it and now you told me what happens I prob wont bother now anyways :p

Lol, are you an idiot? How have I told you what happens? Well, if they are going to put a spoiler warning on then I might as well make it worth their while...

EVERYBODY DIES

1. That's not a spoiler. I didn't tell you what happens, just because you infer from what I said that everyone dies doesn't make it so.

2. I'm not annoyed, I just think that babies who whine about non spoilers are worse than terrorists. :)

Yes it was a spoiler and to proove you really believe what your saying in point 2 above, please list 3 films you havn't seen yet so that I can give you a few spoilers.

Refusal to do this will make you look stupid, so come on whats your 3 films....

Undoubtedly worse.

Have u seen it? I have only seen the original and I'm pretty sure it surpasses the US version. At least the people on IMDB seem to think so.

Then again, most people are probably put off the original simply because they cant be bothered reading subtitles - understandibly.

You are the idiot pal. You said that the audience believes that the family makes it out alive, and then there's a twist. Whether that results in their death or not is irrelevant, it's still a spoiler as everyone watching it will know that the family won't make it out alive quite yet.

As for your comment about babies whining, you imply that it's somehow unjustified to complain when some absolute plank has ruined a film for you. It's not.

Although the film isn't totally ruined by knowing that little bit of information, it most certainly is a spoiler to those who haven't been able to watch it yet. I must admit, when I first saw the thread I thought it was a bit silly to say that without spoiler tags, but at the same time I figured it doesn't totally ruin the film, so meh.

Stop arguing and just be more careful next time! :)

Heaven forbid! Okay, the new Terminator, Wolverine and Angels and Demons. Spoilers don't bother me to be honest, it doesn't affect whether I enjoy the film or not. I certainly wouldn't tip toe around at the thought of maybe giving an inclination as to what might happen.

One born every minute I guess.

The film is certainly not ruined. Just because someone mentions some themes that a film has does not make it a spoiler or in any way give the story away. By that logic you'd have to put a spoiler warning when anyone mentions a title of a film!

"Funny Games..?, oh noes, they've given away the storeeeee!!!"

To be fair though, I prefer not knowing anything about a film before I sit down to watch it. It does my head in when people give away parts of it before I've had a chance to see it, no matter how irrelevent it may be.

If you're that sensitive then perhaps don't venture into threads about films you haven't seen yet.

Or, heres a thought, you know how the brain processes information in real time? Well when you discover that a sentence is going in a direction you don't like the sound of, perhaps, and I know this is a wacky thought... stop reading? :o

In my first post in this thread I was merely pointing out that it was a spoiler.

It was nero120 who kinda flew off the handle at me :p I'm not bothered really.

I'm not even bothered about the spolier that much I just thought I would point it out as it may very well ruin a perfectly good movie for someone.

As for that comment....... well.

Digging yourself a hole. Just man up and accept it was a mistake; we all make them.

I'm not that 'sensitive' about it. I would just prefer it if people didn't harp on about things which could ruin it for me; it's just being considerate. I don't do it to other people, so why do they feel the need to do it to me? The point in the OP comes very close to doing that. I am defending you too, if you'd bother to look.

Think of it this way: You've not seen the film - or go back to when you hadn't seen the film. A large part of the suspense and what kept you guessing would've been - despite cynically knowing they won't - if the two lads would let the family go. They obviously don't so in that respect the film isn't about 'that', but it is another angle for the movie's virgin to appreciate.

I really don't see what's so unreasonable? I mean, I could happily admit I was wrong if I came out and blurted a major plot twist, but come on you are stretching this so thinly you can barely see it. I cannot see how my first post would ruin the movie for anyone, but maybe I'm just strange like that.

And if you (or anyone else) is sensitive about spoilers, why go blindly reading anything that happens to be about a movie you haven't seen? Surely the ability to stop reading is one you would indulge in to spare yourself the grief?

God it's like AA in here...

The simple fact is you gave away something within the film that unless you had seen it you would otherwise not have known. That by definition is a 'spoiler' - just because it doesn't spoil the film for you, may not mean it doesn't spoil it for someone else. Everyone is different remember.

I've already seen the film, which is why I read the thread. I usually stay out of discussion on films I haven't seen, and I do read much more tentatively.

I don't understand why you're making out you're being backed into a corner or being so stubborn about it. Just chalk it up to one of those things, apologise to keep the peace and move on. It's not hard.

Maybe I'm going out on a limb here and possibly taking it out of context but as per your quote.

Let me throw it back at ya, Surely the abilty to stop reading is one would indulge in to spare yourself the grief? yet you carry on reading comments here and carry on arguing ?

My first post wasn't even meant to turn this thread into a huge argurement. I merely wanted to point out that some people might see that as a spolier as I thought it would be. You could have taken my comment with a pince of salt and either ignored it, could have maybe edit your OP to cater for my comment or argue to hell and back defending your situation.

You said "I cannot see how my first post would ruin the movie for anyone, but maybe I'm just strange like that." You just kind of answered your own question there. Maybe you dont see the harm in the OP (but then again you have seen the movie :p)
