Future of Olympic Stadium

I have a feeling that it will be another "white elephant" and could be the end of West Ham, who I cant see putting any more than 20k when they are playing in the Championship, will feel like a dust bowl. Stadium should have been kept as an purpose built athletics stadium with reduced capacity like the original plans.

They'll end up having to give 30,000 tickets a match away to local schools, etc. Most of the kids in Stratford seem to support Arsenal though.

A stadium for football and athletics simply can't work, unless the seats can be moved closer to the pitch as with the Stade de France, but our Olympic "legacy" planners didn't have any foresight to take this into consideration.

None of the Football clubs declared any proper interest until the plans had been developed and the tender process completed. West Ham then offered £100m to help redesign it to accomodate football but this wouldn't have covered the costs and it would have to have been retendered.

Imo the Spurs bid made the most financial sense as West Ham don't have the fan base to fill it without massive cheap ticket offers that will kill Orient and they didn't need public money. Even going back to the original idea of just a 25k athletics stadium would be cheaper at around 2m a year and a damn sight more use for the majority of athletics meets.

As a Spurs fan I am happy that we aren't getting the stadium. Would much rather we had our own development plans approved.

Still, the Olympic Stadium will make a nice Championship venue.

No. West Ham will lease the stadium (no idea what the terms are) and on top of that they will be paying £95m (raised through a series of loans) to convert the stadium for football use.

Both bids are rubbish but the Spurs bid always seemed to be a non-starter.

Oh ok, makes more sense now I guess.

Bizarre really to think West Ham can barely fill Upton Park at the minute and yet they're going to end up in a 50,000+ seater stadium.

Logic literally out the window.

why is everyone here JUST considering football fans - believe it or not there are other people who deserve to use an Olympic stadium (and some might say they deserve it more than footy)

Its not all about "financial sense" its about having an athletics legacy after 2012, which as a resident of London - Im actually quite glad its going to WH

Spurs bid made little sense to anyone else apart from themselves imo

Meh. I'll be glad to see it crippled when West Ham fans are watching thier Championship football through binoculars. At least the subs will be able to warm up on the track though, eh?

Wow, you really have no idea what you're talking about. Fail.

I know you arent normally like this - but you really think this kind of post helps people see Spurs side?

Seeing that post imo is more likely to make most neutrals even happier Spurs didnt get it

I'm just ****ed at the conduct of Brady and Sullivan throughout this. And Sugar wading in and stirring it up hasn't helped either.

Love how fans will just blindly defend anything their club does.

Really?

I'm a Hammers fan and I think it's purely down to future business opportunities for the new owners rather than the benefit of the club.

I am 100% against the move. It will kill the atmosphere, laden us with even more debt and have a part full stadium when we're in the Championship next season.

He clearly doesn't understand that more seats = cheaper prices. If that's the case, and tickets are cheap, we will easily fill the stadium. The reason for our poor attendances is that £40 to see the team at the bottom of the table is too much for some.

Yea, absolutely right mate (love the sig by the way!)

Never seen them live but really want to get to a game before we move.

I will have a bet now with anyone here that in 5 years time hammers fans will be saying moving grounds is the worse thing that happened to them.
