Future of Olympic Stadium

Surely if they keep the running track then the seats behind the goals are going to be miles away. That patch of sand in the middle doesn't even look football pitch sized.

The pitch would be much bigger than that. I think they've talked about retractable seating, although given the general slope/angles of the thing the viewing angles will never be great.

That’s neither here nor there. Some people would make a comment but seeing as you are a Spurs fan one I wondered whether your motive for posting is because it’s a news item or whether it's because your lot haven't managed to get their greedy mitts on the stadium. I suspect you feel hard done by and it’s the latter. :D

If he'd made a new thread just for that then I can understand your comments, but seeing as this is just an addition to an already made thread it shouldn't be an issue. ;)

If the pitch is any bigger than the patch of sand, then it will be bigger than the running track. The viewing angle would be terrible if you wanted seats to go up to pitch side because it is essentially ground level from the existing level of seating to where they would be.

Spurs have come back with a revised design for their new stadium

Seriously? They decided to reduce spending or something?

Are you being serious?

whoosh indeed :o

Back to the drawing board but it looks like the new tenant whoever they are will still have to allow for a track to be kept. So there is still a chance that we get the World Athletics Championships 2017.

Should just let Spurs buy it and sort it, job done, get it over with.

Its that or it sit on the books losing money for the rest of its existence as an atheltics stadium.

lol West Ham/Spurs to of the dodgiest clubs in existence, looking at the stadium its would be pointless in turning it into a football ground.

Not really, because of the way it was done the bids were for basically ownership and because of the way the bids were done, there were several legal battles. Rather than fight for potentially years and years in courts before passing the ownership on, they just gave up, and decided to rent, thereby stopping all the court cases in their tracks basically.

THeres also potentially an issue with West Ham being able to afford it, creepy porn dude 1 and creepier looking porn dude 2 have plenty of money but West Ham themselves don't, if they want to put money in or not, who knows.

Anyway, it will actually save West Ham money, as now the owners are responsible for the refitting it to 60k and for football, and West Ham pay a couple mil a year rent, while both the owners and West Ham will make money out of it.

Probably going to save West Ham and the group that built the stadium a crapload in legal fee's, and YEARS of the stadium being unused.

Spurs plan is still horrific, they don't want the stadium, its as plan and simple as that, they want the land, bulldoze the stadium and start fresh, they can do that anywhere, shockingly wasteful to knock it down and start again. Again them retaining ownership pretty much kills off any legal battle from Spurs.

Confirmed: West Ham chosen as 'highest ranked' bidder to move to Olympic Stadium …

I really hope they don't get it. There's no way they'd be able to fill up 50,000 never mind 60,000 that it'll be converted into!

Orient however would? Spurs should move miles to get it, to bulldoze it and build a new one(as was their intention) likewise, companies and businesses aren't allowed to try and grow.... I forgot that no football club has ever grown before nor should be allowed the chance?

They sell out 35k easily(everyone goes a little under capacity as you generally have a few hundred seats lost to a gap between home/away fans, security and some people have tickets and can't make it, thats life) and its not the same 35k every game, Arsenal went from 40k to 60k no problem, sure they had more success but they also charged a bomb for tickets. If West Ham can't fill seats really easily, they'll make the further back seats stupidly cheap till they do.

The ONLY way smaller clubs can compete and provide a real challenge for bigger clubs long term, is increased stadium capacity to get extra income. Football is a money game, if no teams get bigger stadiums and try to grow, we'd have the same top four teams forever.

ultimately the stadium should be used, it cost 750mil or so to be built(huge amount of that is transport, ground works, local things built, roads, I think the stadium itself was around 250mil), throwing that away for a once every few years usage is criminal. A team should get it, West Ham had the best offer, they deserve a chance to grow, why shouldn't they. If West Ham can't fill it, Orient certainly ruddy can't and Spurs plans from the start were completely insane.

West Ham seems the obvious choice to me. As much as I love the stadium as it stands it does need to get used for something and Football is the big draw that can utilise it. LO are too small to justify that size of stadium and WHU are pretty close too so I think it would make a good fit.

Yes they may struggle to get 60k for every game but that opens up options for promotions like kids for a quid or whatever to start getting children hooked on going to see West Ham and build the potential future attendances.

That is where LO get upset, if West Ham have 10k spare capacity, and can offer kids tickets for a quid, West Ham get lifetime fans and LO get fewer future fans.... that is part of the thinking anyway.

LO also deserve a chance to grow but ultimately West Ham will make the best use of it currently, and have been looking for ways to increase capacity and are obviously in a far more profitable league meaning the revenue from the stadium can be higher(you can charge a prem league team 5mil a year for stadium rent.... try getting that from LO), which ultimately is better for the tax payer, getting some more money back on the tax spent building it.

So glad I'm not a west ham fan I can't imagine the place ever being a decent atmospheric football ground, happy to be proved wrong but I'd be seriously concerned.

The best option and the one that should have been taken from the start was to design the stadium to be converted into a dedicated football arena after the games with a stipulation that the club taking ownership have to fully redevelop a sensible sized Athletics Stadium in London either an existing venue or a new purpose built one.

The solution we land up with is a try everything and achieve nothing mess that doesn't seem to be resolving the issue of what to do with the lame duck stadium.

Cant they do what man city did with there stadium ie convert it to a footy stadium by digging a large hole in the middle and creating a another tier of seats around the pitch moving the stands closer in theory to the ground?

They have to keep the running track.
