i currently have a 3500+ Venice and i've spotted a used FX-53 for about £40

the stepping thingy is ADAFX53DEP5AS (AAABC 0407WPAW)

the only difference i'm aware of is the SSE3 instructions.

could anyone tell me if this upgrade is worth it and what other things i should be aware off

Well to buy it's equivelant now = AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 90nm (£237.29 Including VAT at 17.5%)

I'm still running my FX-53, will run any game fine I can assure you, runs at 1.5v so if your looking to increase the multi etc make sure you have a mobo that will increase volts above 1.5v.

Its definitly worth £40 if theres nothing wrong with it, one hell of a bargain - should be able to get 2.8ghz on air, I've only tried mine upto 2.6ghz but it needs more volts really.

"This FX-53 has never been overclocked - it is in perfect working order and all there are no bent pins!"
Wasn't the best idea posting that, because I've just found that chip now. :D Don't forget how many vultures there are around here - plenty of people would buy an FX53 at £40!
