FX 55 or X2 3800

Don't get an FX in any shape or form. One of my friends recently got a new PC and bought an FX60. I spazzed out at him for about an hour on vent and he blatantly had no idea that it was a complete waste of money. Just go's to show how easy it is to squeeze money out of people by telling them it's the best.

Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 185 2.6Ghz Socket 939

Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 180 2.4Ghz Socket 939

Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 175 2.2Ghz Socket 939

Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 170 2.0Ghz Socket 939

Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 165 1.8Ghz Socket 939

These are the dual core opterons on s939.

Same board as me then. There is a bios limit of 274Htt on the board so unless you have any luck with the beta bios' then thats your limit. If the 170 clocks that high then you have achip that is faster than an FX60.

All opteron's are are AMD 64's with extra added cache and maybe some extra testing done before packing. There are one core and two core versions. Up to 150 is 1 core, all the rest are dual core. Totally depends on whether you're willing to spend more on the added cache but imo the best buy atm is the 3800 and it seems to overclock a treat.

I see that this thread is pretty much the same problem i was having between choosing a processor, though mine was mainly between a SD 3700 or a 3800, i decided on the x2 3800, but now with all this talk of opteron im not so sure.......

Plus i know that these chips clock well, but im not much of a overclocker (never done it before ?!) so my question is opteron 148 or x2 3800 ?

148 is single core so the x2 3800 will give better futureproofing.
