At the moment I am running an FX53 but I have been given a X2 4600+. Would it be beneficial to change to the dual core AMD or stick with the FX53??

I mainly use my pc for gaming and using XP but I do have Vista which I will install at a later date.

Any help or opinions would be appreciated :)

As said the FX would be better for games that have been released, but it seems the turning point has now come for dual core in games. In my opinion a dual core CPU is almost a necessity for people that want to play games that are to be released in the future.

i think they both same clock speed so it would feel the same when ** gaming and anything that uses dualcore you will see improvement

The one good thing about the FX-53 is to say "I have an FX CPU" it ends there.

Even games now, like Oblivion are starting to be Multicore capable, and frankly, windows itself enjoy's it a lot. If I were you, sell the FX CPU, and plop in the dual core one.

Obviously, be sure that you have a BIOS install on your board that can run it first though :)

The FX-53 I had didnt overclock that well this is mainly due to the fact the core is a Clawhammer, but then again 2.4ghz to 2.7ghz wasnt bad.

The most recent AMD 4000 cpu's which is the equivelant CPU - San Diego core but without the upward adjustable multi were well known for hitting 3ghz.

If I was you I would sell the FX-53 aquire an 4600 & overclock it.

The FX series is only a name and an unlocked multi, theres nothing extra special in it that makes it better in games than other AMD cpus with same clock and cache, and a cpu of the same speed + another core would rinse it badly in multi core optimised programs and equal it in single core applications.

X2 over FX-53 anyday, it overclocks better (as you know the 90nm parts overclock well) and its dual core, plus there relatively inexpensive, so its win all around

i upgraded to the 5000+ x2 and i must say im very impressed in how much it can take on multi tasking and doesnt lack in gaming power either
