FX55 to ?

I have an FX55 Clawhammer, got it couple of months back impulse buy. Is there any point me going dual core or would i be better of waiting till Christmas and going AM2 ?
Gaming, net and ripping my cd's.

Well it depends whether you want to upgrade the rest of your rig and how much you want dual core.
If you are happy to upgrade then consider Conroe although that would be pricey.
If you just want a new CPU then I would advise going Dual Core but it depends whether you often run more than 1 thing at once or use multithreaded apps - if you don't then i wouldnt bother.
If you look to go dual core maybe consider the X2 4400+ at OcUK atm which is good value?

Had my eye on the X2 4400 for a while and the oem is looking good. What would performance be compared to the FX55 ?

Try taking a look at tomshardware, they have a CPU database so you can compare performance between 2 CPUs.

Edit : Had a look myself and it seems gaming performance may be slightly down altho it depends on the resolution - if at 1600x1200 its unlikely to make too much difference.

I have a fx55 clawhammer and i've overclocked mine to 2.78

I've my FX-55 running at 2.8. I did have it at 3ghz, but it was a tad too hot for my liking (on air), so I dropped it back. It is a San Diego core though.

My clawhammer wont go any faster then 2.78 even tho the temps dont change from stock speed to 2.78

That FX-55 should last ages, if you feel it's a bit slow then overclock the hell out of it. There's no point in going dual-core just yet really with a CPU that powerful, wait it out and then go Conroe.
