theres a thread explaining all in the overclocking and cooling section plus if you get lost people will be able to help you step by step, it really isnt that hard id say, you've just gotta be careful and follow poeples advice.

what would you rather do, spend that 350 on an fx57 or spend less then 200 on a different cpu that cant deffinatly hit 2.8ghz but has the potential to should you do your reasearch

£350 of my money would be going on a dual core without a shadow of a doubt.

More and more games are having patches for dual core optimisation, even without that the multitasking difference is huge and if you're even half decent at following instructions (very simple ones too) you'd be able to overclock a dual core amd 4400 or opteron 170 up to 2.6 maybe beyond with serious ease. Get to 2.8 which is happening with opteron 170s and you have an FX60!

The 4 things you need to do are (in the case of a 4400) increase the fsb to 235, drop the memory multi to 180 or 166, up the cpu voltage if required and set the HTT to 4x. If you post your motherboard and memory you can almost guarantee someone will have the same.

2 x 2.6ghz+ or 1 x 2.8ghz??

Bit of a no brainer where I'm standing.

And before anyone says, yes the FX can be overclocked too but you very quickly get into a requirement for serious cooling.

For under £350 you could get eiter the AMD Opteron UP 170 Dual Core or AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+, either of those is where i would put my money.

What can the average FX57 overclock to? Personally i feel overclocking is the way forward as my £115 chip is now running at the same stock speed as your potential £350 chip.

Take your FX57 to 3.6ghz and itll be well worth it (like my op146 is) :)

the FX series chips was aimed purely at overclockers and gamers. thats why you dont see your local computer shop or other pc companies selling em. have you even seen an advert advertising the fx series? probably not lol.

there are really nice easy to understand overclocking stickies in the overclocking + cooling forums. please have a look :)

i manage to knocked him down to £325 for FX57 all boxed , so i ripped his arm off , i think i done ok , now i have to lean how to overclock , installed and now running sweet as :) :) :)

I wouldn't pay £300 for an fx even if it did 3.3ghz on air. its just such a waste of money
