G2 dead, what next?

G2 owner here but don't use it a lot, don't know why as I love it when I do.

I'm slightly out of touch now VR wise but the specs of the PSVR2 seem incredible - same res virtually as the G2, OLED panel with HDR - THE most important factors for my next upgrade. If someone could mod it to work with PC (doubtful) or release a same spec'd headset for a similar price it would sell loads, surely?

PSVR2 visual quality has been overhyped somewhat as if has a small sweet spot, mura and smearing, and it's a soft image due to a diffusion layer to reduce SDE. Its resolution is also 30% less than the specs imply due to pentile subpixels. The HDR is amazing though, and if you have PS5 it's an essential purchase just to play the Sony Exclusives.

If it implements its tracking in the headset rather than the PS5 then possibly it could be reverse engineered. It has been made to work on PCs with the now discontinued Virtualink connector, but only in theater mode with no positional tracking and no controller support.

For now you're better off with a PC headet rather than waiting for PSVR2 to work on PC.

Thanks bud good info. I've not looked into it a lot but I assumed the new lens type in the PSVR2 had eliminated the small sweet spot issue (like my G2 has)
For the price though you've got to admit the specs are very good. OLED is the killer thing for me (flatscreen or otherwise)

What is the next PC VR headset incoming - sub £1k - that has the goodies? Or is it not a thing yet?

The only decent new headset under 1k (just) is the Quest Pro, which has amazing clarity and sharpness and self-tracking controllers with no blind spots

Quest 3 will be out near the end of the year and will offer at least some of the Pro's features for about £500, and with a faster processor but it's unknown right now if it'll be a better headset for PCVR, as it likely won't have the Pro's expensive QLED panels with local dimming.

Plus it's likely to ship with a replaceable cloth headstrap, requiring a better replacement to be purchased at extra expense.
We also don't know if it'll ship with Pro controllers.

Possibly by the time you've added all the extras it might be approaching Quest Pro prices...

Vice XR Elite is now more expensive and the lenses, panels and controllers aren't as good, though it has a great form factor.

I did forget the Pico 4 which is pretty good, cheaper than the Pro and higher resolution than Quest 2 and Pro, though it's not actually as vibrant or sharp as the Pro and its pancake lenses are much better than G2 or Q2, but not as good as the Pro.

The built in PC link software isn't geat though, so most people buy Virtual Desktop to do PCVR on it.

Think I'm going Pico 4. HP quoted me £375 for a refurbished headset only with 90 days warranty, so not doing that.

I have a fully boxed G2 here, controllers clearly OK and one out of cable and headset faulty - my best guess is the headset itself. Other than it not working, everything is mint - I've even got an intact cable clip, which usually breaks.

I was considering putting on eBay to let it find it's price but I hate eBay, so was thinking MM on here. But no idea how to price it - any thoughts?

Thought about this more.
If my G2 died completely right now I’d buy a Quest Pro and give my Quest 2 to my daughter.
The Quest 3 would only be needed once developers properly made use of the extra GPU power of the Q3…and it was a standalone game I just had to play

Meta is supposed to have a lineup of 41 games and apps specifically for the Quest 3 when it releases.
