g80 release date

I think someone needs an e-penis pump enlarger, ala austin powers. You're one of the poor saps who runs out for the latest kit - thinking it'll be a major difference. I bet it won't. I still don't think you'll run many of those games at MAX settings on your widescreen.

Best ignore Easyrider.

One day he might grow up and act his age and not his shoe size and before you say ........ What do you expect when you read your replies in this thread.

12,000 for 3D Mark 06 does not sound that hot considering I can get 11K with my GTO's. For my money best to wait it out for the R600 and see how it all pans out.

So people upgrading to conroe from 2.8ghz X2's are poor saps?

I don't think so.

Just like the many people here upgrading to G80 or R600 from X fire x1900's or SLI 7900 GTX's.

So really I don't see you point.

Not sure what you mean TBH.

thing is, crysis, unreal 2007, supreme commander and many other games, will they run at all decently on existing hardware, i mean crysis looks to be the cream of the crop, its not worth playing if your gonna get a crappy 20FPS at best, i mean FEAR was the same, a game not worth playing IMO, so are games gonna force us to upgrade to DX10 hardware quicker than people think?

Well if they didnt then they would lose out on an absolutely huge market, theres loads of ppl still on the 6 series etc... so theres no way they are going to cut those out. :)

Crysis is said to be fine on the 6 series etc... wont be maxed out high resolutions obvioulsy, but it will run pretty decently with some decent eye candy etc... as they won't want to lose out on such a huge market as said. :)

Easyrider can't lose with the step-up program, while everyone is lashing out over £500+ for them, he still has time for the prices to drop before he uses his step-up, so he could end up only having to pay about £100, which is nothing compared to £500+, if i could get a G80 for about that then even id get one. :)

I really hope the childishness that plagued this forum during the 7900/1900 launch period isn't going to raise it's ugly head again...it made it very painful to visit here at times...this is a forum about computer hardware so can we please all stop bickering...it's really dull, many other forums just look forward to new hardware and discuss it, not post negative comments and personal attacks.

Oh, and I resent being labelled a "poor sap" as well just because I enjoy playing with new hardware, I work very hard for my money and if it bothers others so much how I choose to spend it then I really feel those individuals should get a life and more importantly, learn some manners.

Sorry for the OT.

I totally agree. :)

Some people just seem a tad jealous at times

That was a slight generalisation. I'd happily withdraw that as my post was aimed at easyrider.

Easyrider, why do you upgrade..is it to play games faster? Do you actually PLAY any games, or do you keep ripping windows apart and formatting every week when something new comes out?

Jealousy is far from it. I upgrade to play games at nice settings and to generally have a quick computer. I then maintain my PC and enjoy the games on it. I don't rush out "omg have I made the right choice selling my 6800EXXXXXX extreme 900 for 1 gazillion pounds to upgrade to the 6950EXXXXX extreme quad (which nothing will use)". You then bang on about max settings, but I really, really doubt you'll run any of the newer games at FULL (inc AA & AF) settings. Take the G80...as many people have said barely anything will use it and when somethign does use it, the G80 will buckle under high settings. I also don't like the way (referring to Arcane) how people consider things obsolete just because they spend hundreds of pounds every month, upgrading to something that isn't even supported yet. A G80 won't even make a DX9 card obsolete at the moment, as all it'll be doing is running DX9 stuff. I bet you'll have sold it again before DX10 games come out.

I upgrade because I like to.

Because I can

Because I like testing new hardware.

Because I like playing games

Why would I be formatting every week?

Upgrading from a GT -GTX-GX2 does not need a format lol

Doh! I just got myself a 7950GX2 a couple of weeks ago too. Though it was on offer at £290 and it's reassureing to see OcUK have raised their price for the BFG up to £370ish. Good old supply and demand! :p

Any news on benchies for the G80 yet seeing as they're so close to release? If they're good enough I may be able to flog my 7950GX2 at a profit and switch to a G80 from OcUK.

Do we have any indication of G80's performance vs R600?

I really haven't been keeping up to date as I am not interested in purchasing the first generation of DX10 cards - just curious is all.

Only thing I've seen was the inquirer mentioning that it scores around 12000 in 3DMark06. They think R600 will be a little higher.

Speculation about one benchmark doesn't mean a lot though.
