g80 release date

Yeah wait and see, no one knows anything at all about R600, no one even knows the specs, so how they can say the G80 can't match the R600, or even beat it is beyond me.

Only thing I've seen was the inquirer mentioning that it scores around 12000 in 3DMark06. They think R600 will be a little higher.

Speculation about one benchmark doesn't mean a lot though.

Maybe but it does sound about right. Stock score for a GX2 on 06 is about 8,200. So 12K would be a nice increase for them. Any headroom will be saved for a refresh. Drip feed is the name of the game.

we've had rumoured specs for R600, just as we have for G80, but G80 in all truth sounds a bit over the top considering its being made by someone who claimed unified shaders aren't the way forward?

It'd be very nice to see some preliminary game benchmarks, in particular the minimum fps, that's why I like the Hardoocp reviews, they're more tangible to me.

Yes rumoured specs are no good though are they, but we know the specs of the G80 now. :)

The rumoured specs of the G80 were that it would not be Unified etc... but what is it, yup it is Unified. :p

Agreed on the HardOCP benchies. Reporting minimum framerates is really important. An average 70fps is not good if it's actually fluctuating between 10 and over 100.

now then...IM curently building a new system and im in 2 minds..order that x1900xt iceq or wate and see what this is all about..And onther thing. I would have thought that Ati will release something on the r600 asap..If the g80 is out before Ati say anything about what thier card can do then nvidia will sell more...were as if i read the specs for r600 and it sh**ts on The g80 then i will w8t... only time will tell

If it follows the usual pattern of next gen cards, the Nvidia will beat the current gen, (both ATI and Nvidia) by a substantial margin, ATI will then release something slightly later which will be slightly faster than the next gen Nvidia part, this will then be followed by Nvidia releasing a slightly faster version than ATI's next gen part, ATI will follow by releasing something slightly faster than Nvidia, followed.....you get the picture. :D

Now that ATI are refining the Crossfire setup I'm tempted to have a look at it next year at some point, no master/slave cards and no dongle are making it look much more attractive.

i mean the RUMOURED specification of R600 is 32 pipelines, 2 unified shader processors/pipeline running at 800mhz on 65nm manufacture, with 512-bit interface with GDDR4 at 2Ghz, but i doubt thats true, proberbly even faster
