We heard about an upcoming GPU from NVIDIA on 256-bit memory interface earlier this month and we thought it is the rumored 256-bit version of G84. Now we learned that it is actually the next generation G92, a 65nm performance part supporting PCI Express 2.0 and 256-bit memory interface. G92 performance lies between GeForce 8800 GTS and 8600 GTS so it is not the highest end GPU from the G9x series yet. There might be a G90 which we haven't heard about yet and NVIDIA gave clues that their next generation GPU will deliver close to 1 TFlops of performance in a recent analyst conference. G9x could support Double Precision FP too. Sampling will start in September and slated for launch in November timeframe.

Very interesting.

so the g92 is only set for inbetween 8800gts and 8600's? Wonder what the high performance model is then. Plus november launch? Man i'm glad i got my 8800gtx last month and i didn't wait.

looks likes its set to take over the mid range segment. low power consumpion with close to gts performance is bound to catch on fast.

can;t wait for these things to come out and be benched.

true. A cooler/quieter smaller gts 640mb at say £150ish or something would be a very nice buy

If it does come after September and Crysis comes out in September then most of us will be running Crysis on our 8800GTSs and GTXs.

Only time will tell if thats a good or a bad thing.

well if the developers havent been lyinga nd all those videos really are a 8800gtx running it at max at 1900x1200 then it could well be good news. I won't hold my breath however.

Sounds good although this does against most of nvdias past launch timelines (ie the performance parts are released first followed quite a few months later by the mid range segment)

So... G92 won't actually be a new higher end range card for something above the 8800 GTX/Ultra, and is actually the mid-range market? Did I get that right or are they actually still planning something for high end around the same time?

There most likely not in any rush in releasing another highend card till ATI can bring something out that can match or beat there 8800gtx/Ultra

Interesting move releasing these ones first, as said they aint in a rush to release the high end cards seen as they have zero competition, 2900 is only GTS competition, Nvidia have the much faster GTX, and the faster still Ultra to command the high end till next year, and they are already commanding the midrange with the 8600's blowing away the 2600's etc.... so this will just add a few more nails to the AMD/ATi coffin.

Plus i would think a new card would generate a lot more sales over the festive period than a months old one, smart move. :)

I build a rig for someone with a 8600GTS, he would not go extra for the 8800 320, it was rip off at £140 but I can tell you it shocked me, the eVGA card clocked high and ran over 2.4GiG on the Memory (cant remember core), I used a spare HDD to test it and it ran FEAR etc max at the LCD's max res of 1280x1024 so would do him fine.

Sure its 128bit but its a replacement for another 128bit card (7600 range), reviews even say it can hold its own to a 7900GS, it not aimed at high end so shouldnt really be judged on that.

I really don't think the 8600 series are outselling the X1950 Pro's.

Surely a ATI X1950XT http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-066-PC&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=404 would been much faster then a nvidia 8600gts for about the same price..
