Gadget Show Live, anyone else going?

Press tickets again, awwww yeaaaa :D

I've done the gadget show with some of our customers every year now, this one will be a biggy. Firebrand have a Bat-mobile replica there, which is very cool.

I went today as well. 3D was everywhere, plenty of Eyefinity to have a play with, didn't see any of the presenters, played on Gears of War 3 and Duke Nukem, weren't really many freebies (mainly pens and leaflets, although an AMD stand gave me a free copy of Lost Planet and some Tabasco).

AMA.

Was also there yesterday and bumped into Jasin, Ortis and Polly.

There was no live show which I suspect will be a big part of the public event. My overriding impression from the day was 3D being pushed everywhere, mainly on car racing setups.

Cool Pictures!

Hopefully there will be some free stuff still left on Sunday.

Think my mission will be to steal R2D2 :D

The show sucks, as said they don't do that many reviews for affordable gadgets and even when they do the tests they do are fixed to favour one product.

Obviously I don't watch it anymore.

Just to clarify... This thread is actually about the Gadget Live Show, currently taking place at at the NEC Birmingham, and NOT the TV programme! :)

I thought it was the other way around. :D

But the show sucks so why would anyone go? I would only consider going if it was very local and free. :p

I don't think everyone would agree with you there, looking at the numbers who do attend, but you are of course entitled to your opinion!

I went along yesterday, and although it isn't that local to me, it was free! ;)

Well just got back and very disappointed, it just felt like going to a supersize Currys.
There wasn't much interacting with the exhibitors and displays but mainly just giving out leaflets and wanting your email.
Once you've seen half a dozen 3D TV's I've seen enough for the day, I was expecting loads of gadgety things to have a go with and buy. There was a queue at least half an hour long to go on a Nintendo 3DS.
There was a radio controlled car display going on with what must have been 200 people watching, I think people get caught up in the moment, you would never normally spend half an hour watching some cars go round a track.

And then we have the live theater show which was very amateurish, Polly sang a Lady Ga Ga song which was cringeworthy. The show simply didn't work, the magician Paul Zenon came on and did a few tricks which were very poor, not only that but what was he doing there, it just didn't fit in to what was happening.

The more I think about it the worse it gets, 3 of us did a 320 mile trip what a waste, never again.

I've been back about an hour and I have to agree with your comments chipperhead, we did a round trip covering just under 300 miles. It was decent but a little disappointing. We only had an afternoon ticket and didn't catch the theatre show but it sounds like it wasn't much to write home about anyway.

As for the exhibits and stands they were disappointing, it did indeed just feel like a large shop under one roof. I went in with an expectation that I would feel the need to buy something techy or gadgety but I came away with nothing. I also thought some gadgets and tech would be shown that hasn't been released yet commercially. Pretty much everything that was being sold could be played on or bought at your local Currys store or computer retailer.

Many exhibitors simply wanted to scan our tickets for prize draws and stuff but in reality it was so they could spam us with absolute crap every week. Glad I didn't order the tickets with my details :p

Coming to think of it, the most impressive thing was probably not the gadgets, but the female models that had been hired in by these companies to look pretty and draw people in. Some of them were smoking hot! Polly wasn't looking to bad either.
