Gainward gtx 680 a bit of a let down

Dude, why the hell would you go from a 7970 to a GTX680??

If I were you I'd send back the 680(assuming you still can) and get a 2nd 7970.

Coming from someone with 680sli.

What like Heaven? rofl, the 680's are getting raped by the 7970's dude :p

? as I've always said once overclocked there's little to choose between them, depends on the game, or benchmark in this case, as to which is faster.

Lol at the green fanboiiss. Mustn't attack the precious

Oh dear, pathetic. When all else fails call everyone a fanboy? Like most on here Dave I buy whatever is the best bang for the buck and have owned lots of AMD(ATI) cards over the years. I will be very happy if my current 680 ends up being as good a buy as my 5870.

If you want to direct your ire Dave then do so at AMD who launched a very capable card in the 7970 but clocked it way lower than it was capable of and in doing so allowed Nvidia to reclaim the single GPU crown.

I guess I just wanted to try the 680 out and to see what all the fuss is about. Reading comments on here of at least 10% faster speeds and review sites bigging it up made me curious. It's not like I am now going to throw the 680 in the bin. I'll be sending it back more than likely so won't loose anything and at least I now know for myself how they both perform :)

Wind your neck in with the crusade stuff ok.

You think reviewers that would have given a proper critical review of the 680 would have even got near a 680?

Funny how most end users find no difference whatsoever between the 7970 and 680 but all official reviews said it is better

IT'S A CONSPIRACY

Glad i went down the amd route and got the 7970, seems like the 680 is just not worth the money though some may say worth it for lack of driver issues, though i hear now nvidia are having issues of their own...

Good choice, and some honesty from someone who has run both cards

You're acting like a complete child. My 2 cents.

Indeed I can't see how anyone who bought a 7970 in Jan this year can be disappointed, and if I was buying right now I would buy 7970 due to the price (especially as I have just finished Batman AC)

I would be a little disappointed if my graphics card dropped £100 in 2-3 months, but then I didn't pay release day price gouging price for my 680 either

I don't know, I think at ~£440 and no Nvidia competition everyone pretty much knew AMD were going to drop prices when the competition finally showed up.

I wouldn't have paid release day pricing for 680 either ;)

Most review sites won't give an accurate review of Nvidia products as they won't get future samples, everyone wants to hate on AMD.

From what i've seen, the 6% is about accurate. The GTX680 is the fastest single GPU card going, but there's no discernable difference like there was in previous generations, where the GTX x80 part would be out on it's own with little competition.

At current prices, the HD7970 is undoubtedly the way to go. I only went for a GTX680 as I have 10.25" room in my case, otherwise i'd have had the ATI card in a heartbeat.

Having owned both a HD7970 and now a GTX680 I can safetly say that once both are overclocked you won't notice the difference when actually playing the game.... on a single screen.

If however you are like me and run Portrait Surround (Eyefnity) then the GTX680's ability to run three DVI monitors natively is a very nice bonus.

With my HD7970 I used to get horrible tearing on the monitor (or monitors) connected via DP (via DP to DVI adaptor). As the HD7970 can only run two DVI monitors natively this became a major problem for me.

I should point out that the tearing isn't really noticable in Landscape mode but is horrible in Portrait mode in any third person game (Just Cause 2) and annoying in first person games.

Arma 2 with view distance set ingame to maximum will crush the 680's performance even more than this performance screenshot shows,so therefore Arma 2 & 3(upon release) running on a 680 with 2gb vram will be upsetting for the owners. Two 4gb/680 or Two 3gb/7970 is required...

What a bench to post and your point with it is? I can't even see a 680 on that bench???

Well I headed over to the nvidia forums after a bit of googling and it seems a lot of people are having the same problems with stuttering and vsync. I've read that an older set of drivers don't seem to have these problems so I am going to install them and report back. And to say I had read by many on here that nvidia have much better drivers etc.....
