Gainward's Expertool Now Clocks Shaders :D

hi guys whne you are overclocking the shader you still run the ati tool stress test thing to look for atrifacts?

edit: er these are my defualt clocks for a standard evga 8800gts 640 supposidly 500/1600 and whatever the stock shader is

untitled.jpg

also the test button seems to be a waste of time as put the shader clock up gradually until it wouldnt go up any further

double ediy: for some wierd reason the core wont go over 594 even though its ati tool stable at 660

weird. riva was reporting different to gainwards tool so i trusted riva (core clock seemed low than what i selected it for in gainward, and it didnt save the core, only the shader OC)

updated my riva tuner and had a fiddle and now have 675 on the core and 1728 on the shader. memory staying at 2016
temps are at 54C with the fan at 69% constant. all seems ok, just about to stress it now

~edit~ a few artifacts after 5 minutes, dropping the shader down to 1674 to see if that helps. 1700+ seems a bit high

~edit~ yep fine. i would say shader shouldnt go over 1700

ok what the hell, this crashes my PC just like any other overclocking in vista (sig was with XP and im using weaker PSU since mine died) im stuck with E6750 plodding along at stock speed and EVGA KO 8800GTS plodding along at stock, whats going on? could it be PSU related? i get a funny blue message when it crashes (something to do with dumping memory or something)

anybody any advice, overclocking forum, overclocking problems

Memtest? (10 passes of test 5 and 8 are my fave as they bring out the errors).

Bios change after a good read up on forums to find the best one for your needs?.

Is the PSU you are using rated to run all your equipment and have some left to push components past their original speeds?. You've not given much detail to help that's why I'm just giving you a run down of things to try.

my normal PSU until it died was the one in sig, the one im using now is my older OCZ modstream, 28A on 12V rail i think, i know the GTS needs 26A so should be enough

Do you have a new version or something?, I see in your screenshot you have the option of changing 2D/3D clocks, the version I have does not allow this with my GTX, it's the one thing I want aswell. Will be over the moon if there is a new version which allows this.

Long live Expert Tool!

This new version seems to have a bug during 3dmark testing when it gets to the cpu testing part the fan control in expertool states NUL and locks up so you may find your card could be getting much hotter than you would like !
