Does anyone think there are galactic interplanetary deep space wars happening that our civilization on earth is not aware of?

Like you know in galactic civilizations, sins of a solar empire and homeworld.

Sure I guess there could be space wars happening, I mean when you see stars twinkling...could be a mothership explosion. Think about it.

Yeah I was inspired by watching the intro fmv to galactic civilizations 3, and what if a alien suddenly appeared on all tv broadcasts saying stuff like "LADLAKDHAHAOLKHDLOAKH" it would sound like and then we would have to go to war, watch mars attacks to get my frame of mind.

Only if they first managed to do space really really cheaply.

Right here and now it's far too expensive to **** in the paddling pool of earths orbit and so much easier to frankly go round to your metaphorical neighbour on the ground and have a punch up if you're in the mood.

Why should logistics like this be different on another planet.

I suspect any interplanetary war is over in the blink of an eye.
We assume it was a black hole nom'ing on dem planets but was it really an interplanetary super weapon

I doubt interplanetry war looks like
It's probably more like lets collapse this star and have it's energy focused in our enemies direction.

if you think otherwise then you need to go check how big space is and how much effort it takes to cross.
even at the speed of light your not getting across even the observable universe in a single life time

you should watch this episode of the outer limits and of course Russia goes crazy as always :p

It's definitely a possibility and also something that Hawking has pontificated on - he claims that we should be careful about sending out our communications into space as it could alert some advanced alien species to our existence leading them to this planet, which is quite resource rich as it turns out.

Given that even with our modern space-based telescopes we still find can't obtain great quality images of other solar systems (it is incredibly difficult after all, and would cost an absolute fortune to produce a telescope capable of imaging extrasolar planets in any detail; I'm not sure the technology exists to do so in the first place anyway), it is entirely feasible that there could be interplanetary/interstellar (or even intergalactic) battles going on out there that we just cannot see with our current generation of optics.

resource rich compared to what?
10 years ago there was no water on mars.
earth was almost the only if not the only planet with water.

now we know that's total BS and there's water almost everywhere.

I imagine we should work on the basis that anything out there would be Borg like only existing to assimilate other races.

Heck could you imagine the planet having to work together to fight a war? We hate each other too much.

Whose lifetime though?

Most of the variables we know of regarding the chances for life to emerge, size and age/evolution of the universe, etc. actually weigh hugely towards other civilisations if they exist being between less advanced and as advanced as we are and a lot lot smaller potential (though not impossible) for them being significantly more advanced unless they exist completely outside of our understanding of the universe.
