GAME acquires Multiplay for £20m

And why did Multiplay sell for only £20m.

Pre-i50 ? Sure, I'd have agreed.

But since the Minecraft, Console, Twitch & special guest explosion, I'm sure a lot has change in terms of revenue from the event.

Not to mention the income from Gameservers and exclusive deals they have with publishers.

Was thinking this, £20m doesn't seem that much considering the servers etc

I have been to a few of the i-series and would think they also make a pretty big profit form those events.

Didn't GAME get into serious money problems a year or so ago? :(

I'm attending i54, I'll be interested to see how/if this might change future events.

Have clear memories of daily server crashes and week long response times to tickets.

Multiple crashes a day, getting DDOSed all the time and the support taking a couple days to respond with utter bs.

Gamingdeluxe and nowadays I3d respond withing 15 min and are spot on.

Multiplay can die a slow and painfull dead tbh, not worth a single penny.

GAME should concentrate on a UK PC Retail presence not everyone has 100mb FTTC to download 50-70GB PC Games  as well as download booths for PC like they do with consoles where you buy the content in the shop & can transfer to a portable memory stick in the shop

Can't see it working out well - big companies like GAME don't tend to see that kind of business the way individuals do.

Not saying GAME can't make a success out of it but seen it so many times over the years from the earliest days of quake - big companies buy these kind of things up then try and change everything and push what they want on the customers - a lot of the customers are customers in the first place because they have a specific set of requirements and this company suits their requirements.

cant stand GAME

heres why:

had £5.00 in my reward points there had it years went to spend them one day and they where not there???? had to get hold of there customer services [which was only online] to say wtf is going on,they say its put of a annual purge lmfao

bunch of tools so i say its ok for tesco's to take away all my reward points then is it?

they didn't say much more after so in end i said tell u what just delete my account and i will not shop with you guys no more

he said ok fine

lol

end of story

Business-wise it is sometimes a good idea to "have a finger in more pies" and have a presence in multiple markets. In GAME's case it is a good idea.

And what PC games are 50-70GB big? There really are not that many.

Why would they even try when the vast majority are digital games now anyway? There is a reason Game and many other retailers\Supermarkets have about 1 shelf (If any at all) worth of PC games now and it is due to hardly anyone buying physical copies anymore.

I have no real feelings either way to be honest.

I rarely use Game, and I never use Multiplay. But I can see the rammifications in the LAN/e-sport scene, I just hope Game don't mess it up. I don't do LANs anymore, but I accept they are great fun for those who attend. It would be a shame if things went pear shaped.

Fingers crossed the well known brand can add weight to the scene and perhaps attract new attention.

But I guess only time will tell. I wish them the best of luck.

GTA5 is 60Gb thats going to take many people a long time to download unless they have 100Mb.

COD Advanced Warfare is about 50Gb, COD Ghosts was 70Gb! The Evil Within is about 48Gb with the new DLC so many PC games are now well over 40Gb the trend is download sizes are going to keep increasing.

They do it for consoles already just do not understand why they cannot do it for PC as well :(

GAME are the major reason why PC retail games are virtually extinct in this country as they have no resale value  so they stopped giving shelf space to PC at all after having the monopoly for some long they took their toys so no-one else could play with them (as well as object to many Steamworks games being sold digitally in the UK until a few weeks after the physical releases when there were more of those around).

Digital is all well & good but it removes competition & not everyone wants to pay 25-30% more to own a new release when the retail version used to be so much cheaper either!

Retail PC game sales are relatively low compared to console games so there's not a lot of point; if you want boxed PC games buy them online.

Not sure what you mean about the 'download booths', I've never heard of any Game stores having that and it wouldn't work on most consoles either because you can't install games via USB.

i think the main reason i hate the idea is Game have no real understanding on what makes pc tick or games recently that's why they went bust !

so taking over PC gaming server business is slightly puzzling and worrying.i don't mind Mp servers have used many over the years. most have run fine.

You can log onto a console down load the file, move it to a USB stick and then move it to your console at home.

Frankly if your doing that you should just be using the disk though.

Both consoles have pre-loading of games before release now so even huge games like Halo:MCC (over 60gb) can be pre-loaded no problem on my sucky internet.

Not sure if possible Mike from what issues we had when we used them for BF3..

Unfortunately I do remember and they lost a lot of long standing customers due to there terrible support.

Other service providers have far superior service/support over Multiplay and are also generally cheaper too.

247 still alive?
