GAME acquires Multiplay for £20m

I really don't see this ending well. GAME have a terrible reputation from the PC market in general, so investing into a PC-orientated business doesn't seem like a smart move. For the sake of UK eSports I hope to god this actually works, but I can only see it ending badly - especially with GAMEs recent profit warnings!

The GAME shop in Grimsby hardly had any PC games whatsoever when I last time went in last year, it's all console crap.

Unfortunately I do remember and they lost a lot of long standing customers due to there terrible support.

Other service providers have far superior service/support over Multiplay and are also generally cheaper too.

247 still alive?

247 still there. Had some drama as always but whats new ;) Base is there, forum and ts. People playing Arma 3 Overpoch or CSGO.

I remember when GAME and Electronics boutqiue were wall to wall with pc titles, maybe one crappy shelf for the consoles.

They used to sell graphics cards etc too
Even HMV and virgin were almost 50% pc , 10% console, 40% music/videos at one point

the real shame is that blueyonder//telewest/virgin stopped doing the pc gaming servers :|
used to play CS with a 6-10ms ping :D

I am lost, people talking about events and profitability of events etc.

Isnt multiplay a server rental business? Or is this a different multiplay than i am thinking?

I didn't know this had happened until today.

Multiplay are good hosts had servers going back to COD2. I think this is bad for multiplay as a server provider. Game have bought it for the i events.

I've never really understood the appeal of super large LANs it's kind of soul-less. Much better to have a hall with 100 or so and have a bit of banter- the whole point of LANs is to have the interaction you can't get over the web. Plus I think LANs post ADSL are a bit redundant.

Haven't been to an i-series in ages but from what I hear it is nothing more than a minecraft convention now. Didn't they allow the general public to wander around the BYOC attendees at one point? Heard of kids picking up stuff from peoples desks when walking through :s
